Have a basic question, the game seems to be crashing with a "Program has stopped working" after the initial loading when I hit New Game, choose the difficulty... Goes for a bit on Loading, then it just dumps out.
I did rename the AMD movie with no success, same error.
I'm running an ATI Mobility HD 5730, 4 GB RAM, 1.73 ghz Intel i7.
(This machine here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220827 )
Also running Windows 7 Ult 64-bit
Forgot to add, as of today, they have the latest ATI drivers.
I do have K Lite Codecs installed as well but the videos run fine. This is the only game that is having the crashing issue thus far. Any suggestions?

I added the game executable as an exemption to the FFDShow Decoders in case that was it - No luck.
I also would like to note I'm not running Zone Alarm.

And fixed it by myself somehow. Exited Steam entirely, reloaded Steam, it then began to download what I'm assuming was a half gig update. Then it worked.

here is what I did:
the readme.txt recommends running dxwebsetup.exe and vcredist_x86_sp1_atl_4053.exe from the darksiders install folder (steam\steamapps\common\darksiders) so I did that.
Then I went to the media\video folder and added .old to the intro vids names(THQ_Logo1280x720.wmv Vigil_Logo1280x720.wmv and AMD_Logo_movie.wmv) so they would not run.
Now it loads fine.

Yes but you wouldn't even get that far if you had to rename the videos. The videos play pre-difficulty selection.
Either way, as mentioned before, I still got it to work but this is good trouble shooting. I also DO have KLite Codec pack installed and the videos played fine

Any idea how you got it to work, outside a mysterious download, malek1013?
I have the same crashing issue (i.e. immediately after the loading screen after difficulty selection) and I can't figure it out. I uninstalled the codec pack I was using then made sure that all the external codecs were uninstall, as well as all the standard ones registered. Made sure I was running all the latest drivers, DX runtime, and GFWL runtime. I even looked at what codecs the videos were using and made sure that Windows could decode them without an issue and they're definitely fine.
I'm pretty sure this is a completely different issue than the others are reporting since it plays the initial videos fine (I even swapped some of the videos to make sure that they worked and they do).
I'm running:
ATI Radeon HD 4870, 6GB RAM, Dual Intel E5520s (2.25GHz Quad Core Xeons)
Windows Vista 64 Ultimate

I'm having the same problem using a Mac Pro with Bootcamp.
ATI Radeon HD 5870, 12GB RAM, Dual Quad-core Xeon 2.66 and Windows 7 Ultimate 64bits.
Some sort of solution would be greatly appreciated! :)

I don't know how applicable this is, but when I first got the game, I had a problem where the game sound would distort into a very high squeal at the very beginning after the intro movie, then I would lose all sound. I think I did have some crashes from this, too. Believe it or not, updating the sound card drivers fixed the entire issue. So I would try updating both the sound and video card drivers and see if the game works any better. It's worth a try.
I hope this is useful to any of you experiencing weird issues with this game.
