The DLC for this game is already included in the patch? and we just pay for unlock key? :eek: oh dear God! I never thought this type of practice would spread to PC gaming (it plagued console recently)

Its included in the patch so that the multiplayer community isn't split with all that "you must own dlc xyz to join this game". If you don't like or want to buy the dlc (because maybe you don't want the extra planes) then you don't need to purchase in-order to play online when its done this way.

It's better to be done this way than the alternative.

The biggest benefit of putting out extra content is like Vetron said:

You don't end up creating two multiplayer experiences.
Also, it makes it easier for patching; you have ONE codebase to update/maintain. Fixes for the most current DLC are automatically available to everyone.

Honestly, I wish more games were like this, so that the first version of the game had all the updates the current expansion has.
