New game sticks on escape screen on start...

When I attempt to start a new game it goes immediately from that screen to the screen you get when you hit escape in game. Hitting escape takes me to the gameplay for a split second and then automatically returns me to the escape screen.

Helped myself. Posting it for anyone who comes along later with the same problem.

Right click the .exe file called MISE in the monkey island folder under your steam apps, select properties then go to the compatibility tab. Under compatibility mode select Windows 98/Me and then apply.

The game runs perfectly find on my windows 7.
