Far Cry 1 or 2 to be played first

Depends on which one sold best, FC1 or FC2

The only thing they have in common is the name. Okay, they are both FPS, but the stories have nothing to do with each other. So theres no doubt you can play the second part first. Both are real great games by the way.

I *really* liked Farcry 1.
The second one looks GORGEOUS but I recommend playing the first one first, simply because playing it after Farcry 2 will emphasize how much worse the graphics are.

Other than that, it makes no difference at all.

Well, the constant online check thingie was supposedly changed to an initial check at startup only, according to a couple of threads in the Splinter Cell forum. Steam does that anyway, so it's a non-issue as far as I'm concerned - much better idea than having to be constantly connected, especially if you have frequent dodgy internet like I do. (*shakes fist in air at Comcast*)
So assuming that's true, there's hope for FC 3.

But just to echo what others have already said, the order doesn't matter at all - the stories are *completely* unrelated.
Although I agree with Cyanide - Far Cry 1 looks great and for its time it WAS great, but it's no comparison at all to FC 2, which is just drop-dead gorgeous. :)
