Whilst I believe COH to be one of the finest RTS games ever made, I do understand it's age and general re-playability to be lacking, especially if you have owned it since launch.

Blitzkrieg Mod adds new commander tree's, high resolution textures, historically accurate turret traverse speeds, armor penetration, skins and best of all...lots of new units at your disposal, Jadgtigers, Jadgpanters, Comet Tanks, Sherman Jumbo's, SS Squads and much much more!..not to mention new maps optimized for the new features Blitz provides.

Blitz also extends the zoom function of the map, so no more close ups! see more of the battlefield.

I'm not affiliated in any way with the Blitz team, but this is the definitive COH experience for any fan of the game and/or WW2.

You can download Blitzkrieg for free over at

You will never go back to vanilla once you have played this.

If your also looking for additional content in the form of an entire new army, also check out Eastern Front, adds the Russians and a host of new maps, although adds no content for the regular armies.

Pick one or the other though, as they cannot both be run at the same time, Blitzkrieg is superior in my opinion.

Enjoy!!!

Hardly anyone plays either anymore. I prefer Eastern Front though.

i do like the eastern front mod and the blitzkrieg mod for different reasons.
eastern front has done a very good job listening to concerns and fixing balance issues where necessary and generally plays very well now. (at the moment just waiting for ostheer to be released for eastern front).

I like the blitzkrieg mod because it fields a variety of units missed out in CoH, i also enjoy trying out the new doctrine trees. however the "realistic" attempts for blitzkrieg are very damaging for game balance, in vanilla CoH if you hear "squad under fire" you can usually press spacebar and be auto-zoomed to action and thus micromanage what to do.
If you hear that in blitzkrieg more often than not it's too late for your infantry and they all die in a matter of seconds. thus the game requires significant micromanagement, not just for infantry, tanks are also very bad for dying in one or two hits from at weapons.
having said that it is possible to have a squad survive with good micromanagement and they can still be deadly with an ability used or two.
Although sadly the games often end in who can either spam more units or artillery-party because units die too fast.

also there seems to be a significant bias toward German faction for some reason their units are usually better than the allied ones, added to this all previously faction specific things like "roadblocks for PE or Trenches for Brits" can now be used by anyfaction. which i think was a bad decision.

course the extra maps to play on are really well done and i was impressed by most of the maps, although the huge popcap can cause ctd's due to lots of things happening at once, like almost 2GB of memory being used up.
The redone sounds in blitzkrieg are really nice, i really like them, the often better skins for units and attention to detail was really fun to see too.

so overall it's just the balance issues in Blitzkrieg that need to be looked at, otherwise it's very enjoyable :)
