Hey! I'm new to the forums but I've recenty been getting into using Steam and slowly moving away from hard copies of games. Unfortunately, I seem to be having a few problems. Most of my games play and run absolutely well. However, Jedi Academy, which I downloaded just a few days ago refuse to run.

I try to start the game, Steams message of "Preparing to Launch game" appears and the computer seems to be starting the game. Annoyingly though, the Jedi Academy command console appears for a split second and then the whole thing stops, with no indication of any sort that I tried to start the game, it just stops.

I've looked all over the internet and just can't find a solution that works. I use an ATI card, the drivers are up to date and I've even tried the fix for ATI cards here on the forums, created by a member called g0dfather I think?

I'm at the end of my tether here, and getting incredibly frustrated. I know some people have had similar problems where there was an error message about open(GL) or something along those lines but mine seems ever so slightly different.

I've posted the problem on another forum with no success with fixes suggested, but all the details of the problem can be found there, including images of the console (which is too fast to see without recording it) and a video showing what's actually happening.

Here it is: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1044180-Jedi-Academy-Will-Not-Launch-on-Steam

Thank you in advance, and apologies for the wall of text! I just hope I get the fix I need here!

Have you tried verifying game files? Since you are new on Steam, I'll tell you something: If a game doesn't work on Steam, always verify the game files before trying everything else. Here's how you do that:

Yeah, I should have mentioned, I've verified it numerous times and it's apparently fine. I've also uninstalled, re-downloaded and then re-installed with no luck.

(Also, i'm not really new to Steam. I actually started using it when the Orange Box was released! :P It's just recently I began using the service on a regular basis. I'm new to the forums though!)

Do you have any programs on this (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_cat.php?id=14&t=qanda#9828-SFLZ-9289)list (look under, "Software to Look For".?

I have AVG antivirus, on that list.

Try disabling it first, though sometimes you may have to uninstall it, you can also try adding an exception for Steam's entire folder within AVG, in all cases, make sure you verify the GCF's (even if you already did before), and reboot before trying.

Disabling didn't work, so I'm un-installing, see where it gets me.

No luck. I have a feeling this holds the answer but I don't have the technical know how to make sure?

If that fails, and you're still willing to try, download and install the following updates, reboot, and try again.

vcredist_x86.exe from, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9b2da534-3e03-4391-8a4d-074b9f2bc1bf

Then reboot. Then try.

Naaa, that doesn't appear to show any issue. If you mean the autoexec.cfg, that's optional and would not cause an issue.

This may sound stupid, but download them all at once, then reboot once or individually for each update?

If either of the 1st two prompts you to reboot after installing it, then do so, otherwise you can do them all then reboot once.

Nope, still no luck. I'm getting really ticked off now with this.

I'm really sorry :(, I'm out of ideas for now, if I think of anything else, I'll post here.

Have you tried opening a ticket (https://support.steampowered.com/newticket.php) with support? Maybe by time someone posts here with a working solution, support might beat them to it.
