Constant disconnect in L4D2?

Hi guys,

So I've had this problem for a few months now, and have done just about everything I can think of to try and fix the problem.

Basically when I connect in-game, whether it be versus or campaign etc, after about 10 seconds I disconnect and get sent back to the lobby.

What I've tried to fix this problem:

- Reinstalled L4D2

- Bought a new router

- Disabled firewall

- Verified game cache

None of the above have fixed the problem. Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated.

what is the message that displays when you get DC'd?

I had a problem a few months back, where I would get disconnected from games, and it would say "unable to authenticate user with steam"

it was because I was launching the game from my taskbar, rather than through steam.

I connect in-game for around 10 seconds, then the gameplay stops and I get the "Warning: Connection problem, auto disconnect in X seconds", and get the message "Retrying connection to server".

Then when the reconnect timer is up, I get sent back to the lobby on my own.

Also, I launch all games from the Steam panel.

try using a wired connection, if possible. We can go from there if that does not work.

Hmm, could be your router than.

How many devices are connected to your network? You may need a faster router.

Also, where do you play in relation to your router? try moving closer to it.

Before you go any further, what type of router?

Wireless says it all.

The packet strength is vital and if you don't keep the game hooked it thinks you've d/c'd and sends another request, which is taken as a new request. As the game is already in progress this becomes a null-request and the game decides to send you back.

I will be surprised if the wired option doesn't sort it.

And with the new Powerline connectors that use your home power wires as if it was a normal wire, so long as you are near a power socket you can just connect there.

Hey guys, i have the same problem, and I am using wired connection. I have tried wired as well, and still happens. I am sticking with wired. I have the Thomson router
