As our players are probably aware of now, we are shipping a new awesome character creator as a part of our last Incursion release this January. We here at CCP believe that we are making history - a milestone in how character creation should look and feel in computer games with the capabilities to finely sculpt the appearance of your character with such incredible detail - and this makes us very excited. But creating a character is only the first step. What happens to these character portraits when we are flying in space? Is my computer supposed to handle rendering dozens of these portraits when I open my address book? Or even thousands of portraits when trading in Jita or taking part in a fleet fight?

Another heads up for all our players; you will have to recreate your character portrait using the new character creator after it has been deployed. This means that your old character portrait will not be accessible anymore! If you want to preserve the old character portrait in high resolution, you should log into the game and use the capture portrait option while it still exists.

Well i logged into sisi to check ont he progress of the carbon character creator ( is was fugly as hell the last time I looked) and my Caldari lady is an absolute babe now. I didn't see any hairstyles like yours Tat but maybe it's because they're race and bloodline specific?

Here's what i've got:

I tried the SiSi client a few months ago and the character creation was buggy beyond belief. I've tried loading it on my Mac EVE client and it won't work, so I'll have to wait until Monday to try it out (hopefully it'll still be live on the test servers).

My first task is to attempt a Gordon Freeman. :D

what can i say, they have the best looking women. I cant quite get my main (male) right though so hope they've got the hairstyle i need when it's fully released.

At least all the males in EVE won't look tremendously and unavoidably evil.

Thats a shame. My main doesn't looks evil per say but he does have one of the most badass 1000 yard stares i've seen in a portrait and I just want to be able to emulate his look with the new tech.

I predict that in a few years we will all get hit hard by the nostalgia stick about our old portraits. Although Im very excited for the new character creator.

I'm happy we can re do our characters. My guy looks like some chaotic Asian :P

I wonder if it will update properly or if we will have to use the eve repair tool to actually get it =\

Update: The downtime schedule has changed. The deployment process will now last until 15:00 UTC.

Currently 11:41 UTC, quite a while to go!

You guys can download the patch now (do it manually from the website or log in and download the automatic client). It's 1286MB big, so better start now! The servers should be up by 1600 UTC.

I had a bunch of final rendering problems (I've corrected them in photoshop, but I have also submitted a petition to re-do it), but here is my new character (the second picture was taken shortly before the final version):

Why does this stupid game not update through steam

Why does this stupid game not update through steam

That would require the EVE Online client from the CCP website to have to update the same way. Games that update through Steam are done in a particular way, and I'm not sure CCP wants to invest time into that right now. Just launch the client and do it through there!

No it wouldn't, millions of games create separate patched for standalone clients vs. steam.

Just launch the client and do it through there!

I did, but it had to be the slowest patch download I've ever had the misfortune of sitting through in years. Steam would have done it in a few minutes.

Also, they seriously need to let us change our race. Since it doesn't effect stats anymore having a race that doesn't represent my ethnicity is pointless.

neither of those look like the original T@T, Ihatechosingnames in particular. Shame about the hair, but Chesticles is pretty delicious - I certainly would.

neither are wearing tops... just jackets over their underwear...

on sisi you could change underwear colour... can't find the option on tranquillity.

Hi,

This is an update to all players with a character portrait related petition in our system. Please read through carefully and update the petition afterward if still necessary.

If you are not happy with the character portrait that you have made for your character, do not despair. In the next few days we are going to give everyone who has already customized their character at that time one re-customization for use during the grace period. This will allow you to restart the character portrait creation process with your current character portrait as the starting point. Please be aware that once you have saved your character portrait it will be final until we introduce in-game re-customization in a future release.

The month long grace period we advertised refers to the period during which you can log into the game without a character portrait. Once this month grace period is over you will no longer be able to log in without going through the new character creator to create a new portrait for your character.

Best regards,
The EVE Online Customer Support Team

I just finished re-doing the new character portraits (second run) and here's the result. Sans the rendering artifacts in the first portrait, I am rather pleased with the results!

I actually thought the original faces/avatars in eve where good and really nice looking, but these are absolutely PERFECT :Dhttp://latestufosightings.us/eveonline Then again when they introduce even better avatars (maybe animated or something) I will probably say the same ha ha!
