Dance with the devil - immortal technique (originates from South America I believe Peru, lives in the Bronx, lyrics in English)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qggxTtnKTMo

That song will make you sick in the stomach as you listen to it, but when it's over you realize that this man just created the greatest art ever conceived by the human mind. Gotta love songs that you talk about after the song is over.

Definitely agree that underground > mainstream.

Also got much love for K-Naan, check this tune out. (Originates from Somalia lives in Canada, lyrics in English)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBD9h0jUq3w

Then to finish my revolutionary love for hiphop it's gotta be the french artist Keny Arkana who even started a whole political party in France and it has spread worldwide. La Rage du Peuple, la rabia del pueblo, the rage of the people. (Originates from Argentina lives in France, lyrics in French with english subtitles in this video)

Igorsky, you're trolling the wrong thread. An open mind and maybe a love for music in general should have led you hear, not to bring up something like what you shared with us.

I'm finding way too much love for Eminem. I don't get it. Although I do love conscious hiphop more than anything else and I just don't find him anywhere close to being conscious. Sure he can rhyme and he can freestyle, but I find he lack substance other than pleasing the mainstream audience. Hence why he became famous when going mainstream and not when he was in the underground, other than his own city.

I happen to live in the Bay Area and the underground scene is wicked.

Foreign Legions
Lunar Heights
Sonic Bloom
Slumplordz (sunmoonsekt and the yakuza)

There's a wide variety of rap music, but I'll throw some in here that I like the most. The majority of my rap collection is Memphis rap, so expect some buck/crunk/dark music.

DJ Paul - Break Da Law (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzQi5aQHg1Y)
DJ Squeeky - Mix (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUpV5xCSVKw)
Gangsta Blac - Ain't No Love (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJ17TN0ST5I)
Project Pat - Aggravated Robbery (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cddh0Xjz2eU)
Three 6 Mafia - Late Night Tip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5geCMyjFKk)
Three 6 Mafia - Anyone Out There (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZgJIz_x2oE)
Three 6 Mafia - Sippin' On Some Syrup (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOWKGXpl9E0)
Tommy Wright III - Hit List (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvP2er82DFg)
Tommy Wright III - Getting Crunk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MKGXjtJQNY)

I've got lots more, but I think I'll stop there. ;)

Its hard for me to get too into the newer hip-hop like B.o.b. in general, some of his stuff i really really enjoy, but some of the beats he uses really detract from my listening to him rap. I can't really listen to Cudi or sny guys like that for the same reason.

You might like a few songs on this album, all throw-back bee-bop, kinda alternative beats, fun to listen to.

Pretty hypocritical comment for someone with a name such as "thuglyfe"

serieus1
01-15-2011, 05:37 PM
To clear things up.

All music genres possess a mainstream and an indie (underground) subgenre.

Personally I find most mainstream music as a whole to lack enough substance both in the music and the lyrical creativity to grab my attention. I have found for the last 15 years of my life that independent developers are more willing to stretch the boundaries of art.

You can find this in video games as well as film too. This doesn't mean that indie (underground) music is better than mainstream it just means that if you're looking for something that tries to stand out rather than just blend into the social status quo of that music genre then indie music is better for you.

So if you don't like the music, like I didn't like country before, then please try to listen to something that is less mainstream and more indie and maybe you'll find that this music genre is actually a true artform.

So if you hate rap, then please listen to its more angelic cousin the underground rap and you may find that there is some truely thought provoking art out there that offers suggestions/ideas/and makes people aware of social and political issues that exist. Others offer new ways of thinking by vividly exploring new philosophies while some just plain want to show off the beautiful word play expertise.

Don't hate art if you only view the mainstream version of art.

Explore a little deeper, take a ride through the rabbit hole and open your mind.

That's what music in general is all about............isn't it......... is to hear someone else's perspective rather than being stuck in your own.

So many worthless opinions in one place....this is great! And i thought we were going to be stuck having a discussion with like minded people about a particular type of music we enjoy for once. Apparently only the techno kids have to deal with that though.

Sarcasm aside, what ever happened to "if you don't have anything nice (i'll even take comments of ANY substance in this case) to say, don't say anything"? Because we don't really care to hear about how you don't like rap. I guess we can thank you for the bumps though. Thanks!

Thanks!
