I just recently bought The Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena off Steam.

But when I started the game up it displayed in 800x600 in low settings. "No problem" I thought, "I'll just change the settings in options". I went to the options and found that my native 1920x1080 was not listed as an available resolution. The available resolutions only went up to 1360x768. "Well that's an annoyance" I said to myself, "I'll just go to the .cfg file and change the resolution to the proper one". So I went to where the .cfg file is located under appdata > local > atari > The chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena and set the Display to 1920 1080 32 60, then set the width and hight to 1920 and 1080 respectfully. When I started the game this time I could see right off the bat that it was NOT 1920 1080, and when I went to the options menu my suspicions were confirm. The options menu showed the resolution to be 1280x768. -_-

The weird thing was that 1920x1080 was not an option in under the resolutions, but when I tried switching to it, the resolution didn't change.

I've noticed that the review for this game on Widescreen forum says that 1920x1080 IS an available option for this game. So what am I doing wrong here? How can I get my native resolution to display?

My rig has an ATI Radeon HD 5850 1GB RAM my display driver and CCC versions are up to date.

My monitor is an LG 42LD550, there are no drivers for my monitor since it's actually a 42" HDTV that I'm using as a computer monitor.

I'd appreciate any help that can be given. This problem is really starting to get on my nerves. :o

It's screwed up. After 3-4hrs of working at it this morning, I finally got full screen but it's stretched and not a true 5:3/4:3 resolution for me but I can live with it. I'm not surprised you are having trouble. Other than that it's a fun game.

You can try editing edit the config file but no guarantees as sometimes it doesn't save properly and still starts up in some different resolution than you have edited to run in. There has to be another hidden config file somewhere.

I have a fix for your refresh rate problem. Though others may have a more effective answer.

Go into the options for the game and set it to run in windowed mode, that will force the game to run at your monitors refresh rate.

I came to this partial solution when I was messing around with the settings trying to fix my problem. I found that I could get my native resolution if I put the game into "windowed" mode, and then manually set the games resolution (via the .cfg file under appdata) to 1920x1080.

It's still a little annoying running the game in windowed mode, but at least it's playable at a decent resolution now.

Hope this helps!

I messed around with the reselution and ratio settings for about 30 mins when I first got it, which was a few weeks ago. I use 1680x1050, I either had to deal with black bars at top and bottom or squished in. 16:10>16:9 solved my issue. You just have to find the right ratio.

I think the reason why they failed at that is because its an old game from 2004, sure older games work well with widescreen and higher reselutions. But this game didnt.
