This is odd - HTTT worked well, and ran smoothly. DW is very choppy and slow, even when I minimize the graphics options...
I have a 3.2 GHz P4 with 1 Gig of ram... should be okay? Any suggestions for making the game run more smoothly?

I think it is because the save game files are ballooning in size. I noticed that my save game file ended up as 300mb when I noticed a bog down. Considering that games when saved at the start of the game are around 8mb, that is quite a considerable jump in size.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the messaging system? When a game starts the default is to log everything, and that seems to be a lot of messages. I tried to not have them even show up as an 'icon', and it seemed to help a bit... But not much. The '3' speed is just as fast as the maximum speed because of how slow the game is moving - which makes it difficult to get through the game. Big delays at each new month.
I wonder what could be ballooning the saved game sizes?

This is a known bug of the game right now.
You must never use the resign menu option and then reload a savegame. This makes savegames baloon in size and will make the game unplayably slow after a while. If you need to reload, always quit the game and start it up again from scratch, then load your saves. This will avoid the savegame size issue and will keep the game running with the usual speed.
It's a very annoying bug, and hopefully it will be fixed soon.
(If the game is too slow right after starting a completely new game, then your PC is just too slow. The game did get a huge graphics update, so it's natural it needs a bit more beefy hardware than HTTT)

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. Divine wind worked fine for me until the save file became huge.
