View Full Version : If the combo pack sells really well, do you think...

...the series could be revived?

Poker Night did particularly well and generated interest in the individual characters' titles. I wonder if this gem of an episodic indie RPG/Adventure could be revived?

I got it yesterday and I had a hell of a lot more fun with it than the entire GTAIV "Saga", which albeit being excellent value for money (8.50 on Steam was a steal) stopped being fun REAL early on.

Don't count on it.

Penny Arcade didn't stop the development due to low sales, but because they didn't believe the dev studio (HotHead) could create the quality game they wanted Ep. 3 to be, because they were busy making other games.
An instead of taking the risk of delivering a sub-par sequel, they decided to stop production and write short stories to finish the story, which are available at their website, by the way.

Then Hothead games withered into non-existence, and certainly didn't create a far superior game called "Deathspank".. Haha, if that happend, there'd have some splainin' to do...

Are they free?

They actually stopped development of Ep. 3 to center their attention on Deathspank, to make sure the game lived up to their expectations.

Are the short stories good in your opinion? If I buy this pack, I'd like to feel some sort of closure on the story arc.

Haven't read them.

I know they're there, and I'm pretty sure they're free, but haven't bothered to read them. Doesn't feel the same without my character thrown in the middle of the chaos, mayhem and nonsense that goes on in those games.

Personally, I don't think so. They're kind of a disjointed mess and read more like Jerry Holkins trying to impress himself than actually deliver something entertaining. He's a bit too full of his "unique" (read: unusual to the point of being nonsensical) sentence structures.

They're here BTW: http://www.penny-arcade.com/rainslick/

Er, no. You're kind of missing the point. Penny Arcade cut them loose so they could focus on making Deathspank a success. Not to mention that the rigors of game design were apparently kind of wearing on Gabe and Tycho, or at least, that was the (possibly unintended) impression I gleaned from reading some of the front page posts of the time.

I would dearly love to see PAA concluded in game form. I'm not holding my breath for it or anything, though.

The leap between the style of the game and the chapters is considerable, but Im'ma cut the guy some slack. These things are practically drafts, and we're lucky he's putting them together at all.

I've found that most people who do webcomics and succeed(A term which I use lightly) tend to write things that stroke their ego, and making jokes that only they undestand. Aside from that, I found the game quite random, but fun.Going off topic, I find the altered PA comics to be funnier then the actual comic itself. Which is how the meme: WHY I AM SO BALD was born.

I personally can't stand that kind of stuff, but just putting in my two cents.
