View Full Version : Official Magicka Status Report (Jan 25th)

Paradox__rep

(Follow www.twitter.com/magickagame for up to date info - remember that devs/publisher are in Sweden - Central European Time)

Thanks for playing the game!

Here's the official status of Magicka as of now (25th of Jan).

Short story:
Singeplayer works fine for the most part, Multiplayer does not - patch on the way for both! (as soon as steam pushes the button). We'll patch the game as often as possible.

_______________________________________

Long story:

Singleplayer: Small bugs reported here and there and a bunch of them are already fixed. We're especially aware of the "middle mouse click" bug. Re-map option on the way! Devs will fix more stuff as they come in.

Multiplayer: Players are experiencing connectivity problems. In addition to that we know that we have a bug with status effects not being reported correctly on the client side in MP. This leads to a bunch of problems. The fix is in the patch!

ADDITIONAL INFO:

Some players are reporting other problems. Please follow these general steps and hopefully it'll help most of you.

Make sure you're on a computer that has sufficient juice:

MINIMUM Requirements

Operating system: Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7
Processor: Intel® Pentium® IV 2.4 GHz or AMD 3500+
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Hard disk space: 2 GB Available HDD Space
Video: NVIDIA® GeForce 8800 or equivalent
Direct X-compatible sound card
DirectX® 9
3-button mouse, keyboard and speakers
Internet connection for multiplayer

We've seen that a bunch of players are reporting that the game is running poorly on their netbooks/laptops without proper graphics cards. This is the primary reason why the game is acting up.

Make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card. Visit www.nvidia.com or www.amd.com.

Make sure your have the following installed (should have autoinstalled)

XNA Framework (Link to microsofts website (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=53867a2a-e249-4560-8011-98eb3e799ef2))
Microsoft .net framework 3.5 (dotNetFx35setup.exe) - (Link to Microsofts website (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325fd-ae52-4e35-b531-508d977d32a6&displaylang=en))

We (devs and publisher) are super committed to fix stuff that's broken and make sure you guys can have a great time with the game.

Additionally we've also have a bunch of improvements (password for private games etc) planned and will be patched in as soon as the major issues are out of the way!

Keep letting us know if there's anything else we can do!

Thanks again for playing and watch out for friendly fire!

Thumbs up for the support. =)

There appears to be a minor desync issue in multiplayer, though it's difficult to replicate. Sometimes a player's position is not updated (3 players don't see him), and sometimes a different player claims to be dead despite having been resurrected (and killed off) repeatedly.

You might REALLY WANT TO look into that.

We do our best. We're gamers to and know how frustrating it is when there's no official word whatsoever at launch about issues (because there always are).

We appreciate that you're patient with the game. We promise to do our best to smoothen out issues!

I am sorry, but could you at least give me a confirmation about the acknowledgement of my problem? Only a few people seem to have it and that makes me rather hopeless.

I guess I'll post my problems on this thread too. I'm having problems where the game will crash after roughly 20 seconds of gameplay. Ive tried lowering the graphics (though my pc should easily be able to run it) but no joy. Ive redownloaded both the things suggested, no joy. Ive tried reinstalling the game, no joy. I also have an issue where my character will stop responding during the middle of gameplay. I can still cue up elements to use, but the character remains umovable, frozen in whaterver animation it was in when the error occured. Enemys still move and kill me. Patch did nothing to fix this.

Thanks for the news. :) I have had heaps of fun with the demo already and am currently downloading the full game.

I think most people don't mind some initial issues as long as there's communication going on. Plenty of developers don't really "get" that part and just stay silent (while working on fixes), which unnecessarily disgruntles people as it is bound to seem like a lack of respect (and may well be). No one likes to feel walked over.

So, thanks for talking with us! :)

The game said it ran out of memory. It was using up more than it was actually showing in the task manager.

My issue is that the game starts fine, but presents me with what looks like a 'map buttons for xbox controller' screen... which I can't get rid of.

I have a controller connected, but futzing with it doesn't seem to get any responses, and I want to play mouse and keyboard anyway.

Ah well, I'm still happy with the purchase and I'm looking forward to it whenever it's fixed.

I`ve just been in the challenge mode... and there`s a few problem with spells...

Thunderstorm and Invisibility seem to rely on some non-existant elements. Which makes it impossible to cast them... rather annoying. :/ Or are those supposed to be done with more than one magician?

This is after the patch. Not sure if the issue also existed before the patch.

I suspect you mean ice and steam? They're not non-existant. Try combining elements. (One of the early NPCs in single player talks about this.)

Aha. So you even need to make 'combined elements'. :D ok, I ninja my post away, since it`s not a bug, just a misunderstanding. xD Did see the conversation, but totally missed the part where water and fire or water and freeze combines in 1 element.

So far this game is absolutely horrible. Yes, the gameplay is great and combining elements is cool, but it doesn't matter at the moment because the game doesn't work. I have no idea how a piece of software in that awful state can be commercially released.

This may be a repeat issue, but I didn't find it:

This support is a big reason why I bought the game, other than the genre is one of my favorites and I was looking for a new game of this type. OK. I have played this game for 2 hours now. This is what I have done:

- Launched the game.
- Waited for 1 hour 50 minutes in a game lobby waiting for people to get past connection bugs.
- Watched the opening cinematic.
- Listed to Vlad tell us he's not a vampire etc.
- Been thrown down a giant whole.
- Watched a black screen while my three friends completed the tutorial.
- After 5 minutes of spamming alt-tab, I could finally see.
- Within 2 minutes I randomly died.
- After three more minutes the remaining player's controls froze.
- Losing count of timings here, we got teleported back to Vlad, and the same thing happened again.

I am unsure as to why this game is advertised as a 4 player coop game. It clearly isn't. I won't speak for singleplayer, in fact I have heard that it is quite good (now). The multiplayer is dire. It feels like it's a closed beta, if not an alpha. Games should not be sold as finished products when unfinished. It should have been made VERY clear that this game didn't work as intended in the product description.

This is one of the reasons people give for pirating games, and releasing games at this state of completion if anything fuels these parasites on the games industry. If your multiplayer isn't ready, release a singleplayer game and add the multiplayer as a patch later in the life of the game. Do NOT advertise a product as something it is not. I feel duped by your company, and if this is not fixed within the week will probably never buy another game made by you. Basically sort it out. :o

Any idea's why the game crashes my BTHomehub router when I'm joining servers/am in lobby's?It's probably to do with this issue: http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=38891

Basically, the Homehub has a faulty rule on it which means that it will either time you out of games within a minute of refreshing the server list in Steam games, or it will just lock up or reset.

To consolidate this issue, here are links to other posts reporting the same error. There haven't been any confirmation from the powers that be about it, possibly because most of the error reports have been posted in a thread that seem to cover both the demo and the full game. In my case the error occur with the full game.

Hi guys,

We've got a big bunch of stuff that we're including in todays patch.

We're looking through all your threads and adding your issues to the master list.

Our primary focus is:

stability
network connectivity
key remapping
stuttering
performance

as we clear up those things we'll also add stuff that you are requesting:

demo patching (new version expected on friday)
private games
more checkpoints
game balancing

Help us help you by posting error logs and informing us about workaround.

It's on the road map but it has a low priority to be honest.

Why? system requirements clearly the state the need for a proper (dedicated) graphics card.

In order to get more error logs out there, here is the one I'm getting with both the demo and the retail game. Repeated reinstallations of the game and the dependencies (XNA 3.1 and .net 3.5) as well as updating my graphics drivers haven't made any difference.

The game doesn't even launch, it the program exits as soon as I try to run it.

System Specs:
Intel Core i3-540
Geforce 8800gts 512mb
4gb DDR3 ram
Windows Vista

Help us help you by posting error logs and informing us about workaround.

I'd suspect you know about these already, but...

1. It's possible for those whose games crash / hang when pressing "join game", to join a random one using the play-now button in the middle of the browser menu. It's.... inelegant, but better than not being able to play at all. I've gotten some good games out of it.

2. Here are the three different error reports I've seen:

for ppl having the framework errors and such if your windows region format is something different then English(United States) make sure that you change it to the one i mentioned and try to run the game that way.

I'm in the same boat. Game looks awesome but demo fails. Looks like the demo will be patched/updated on Friday? Guess I'll try again then.

I actually did get the demo to start by changing my desktop resolution from 1920 x 1200 to 1600 x 1200. But it was glitchy graphically. And apparently I need to unplug my controller if I want to play with keyboard and mouse according to another thread I saw.

I finally got it working by downloading some files manually that were pointed out in another thread.

Some FPS issue's but I have to say this game is excellent fun and this is just the single player POV. I can imagine how hilarious some of the mistakes could be on multiplayer.

Accidently blowing up your team or casting lighting while someone casts water. Has the potential to hilarious.

I'm actually going to buy the full version now.... I need to beat the Jormungr (probably spelt wrong but oh well)

So I'm not sure about this but... I don't see side-walls.
I noticed it before but now when I went to the east-tower with the cheese... I seem to run in a invisible wall.
I just see a hovering platform and no brickwall to support it... it's transparent.
Just my error or is it supposed to be like this or what's going on :)?

Greatzz,
SojaBird.

Add:
Watched some video's and I indeed miss sidewall textures and all.
What's what that :)?
Also, I play on medium settings since my ATI Radeon X1950 Pro goes realy slow on high settings... odd :p

Ok after buying the full version and the first thing I noticed was the FPS are a lot worse :(

I'm playing on a laptop with these specs

i5 2.6 processor
4GB ram
ATI 5450 1GB
Windows 7

I know there are problems with laptops but lets just hope it gets fixed

Would really like laptops to be able to play this :(

Seems to me that this being an indie title and a 'casual' type game, people likely to buy into those genres may not have fantastic set ups, so this inability to run without meeting the very high requirements is really not drawing in their purchases. At least that's how I see it.

I'd really like to give you guys my $10, lower the sys requirements! :D

Your card seems to be below the minimum requirements.

The requirements are not that high. I'd rather developers just make a good game, and let whatever comes out decide the requirements, rather than focus every game made on the exceptionally poor on-board video cards that most laptops have.

Realy?
Mmm that's totaly sucky since I can play the game on medium pretty good...
This is lame!

They should optimise stuff so I can enjoy playing :p
Oh well back to MassEffect at full then I guess...

ADD:
Checked the requirements... seems my card should work perfectly fine

Any updates on this particular issue ? I'm still stuck not being able to play =(

To consolidate this issue, here are links to other posts reporting the same error. There haven't been any confirmation from the powers that be about it, possibly because most of the error reports have been posted in a thread that seem to cover both the demo and the full game. In my case the error occur with the full game.

Any chance we could get a confirmation from Paradox_rep that this is being looked into?
