You can play with keyboard and mouse if you disable your gamepad...

Sorry mate, its a fail on your end :)
There is no "controller support" logo on the store page, so... :)
Make sure any gamepad or joystick is disconnected from your PC before starting the game.

The idea of starting by configuring your controller buttons is a welcome one actually, unlike many mainstream multiplatform games that simply force you to buy or emulate an x360 controller. These I call "pc port fails".
But really, this configuration step should be skippable with keyboard+mice. I have some leftover PPJoy virtual controllers configured and this forced me to disable every single one just to be able to run the game.

Sorry, OP, but it's really a fail when you complain about "port" issues, when this game is PC exclusive.

I have to support the OP as I am having the exact same problem and I dont even own a gamepad of any kind.
I cannot get past the menu screen with the small white picture of gamepad controls. NO way to change any confirguration via the game at all.
In fact, I have to Alt-Tab out of the game and use Task manager to close the game.
So clearly, there is a problem.

Well.. They have mentioned the Xbox 360. And since the game is written using XNA, it should be very easy to get it running on the Xbox.

Yes, and that would be an Xbox 360 port of the PC version. The game was still developed entirely on PC. What's your point?

That the only "porting" involved is setting an option when compiling. The game is already ported, it runs on the same code as the PC-version.
XNA works crossplatform. No porting needed to run on PC or Xbox. The same code runs on both.

That doesn't in any way change the fact that it is currently PC exclusive and therefore cannot be a console port.

A game CAN be a console port, and still be PC exclusive. HOW? Just because it isn't released for on console, doesn't mean that it wasn't developed first on a console.
Developing games with XNA is a gray area of what you will call a port or not. Because you don't change that much, only the Xbox specific / PC specific code.
For other games you will have to replace large chunks of subsystems written specific to the target platform.
This game is written simultaneously to do great on both PC and Xbox, AT THE SAME TIME!
