I couldn't find mention of this error amongst the spam of system specs in the other problems-thread.
The entire error text is:
"No suitable graphics card found.
Unable to create the graphics device.
This program requires pixel shader 3.0 and vertex shader 3.0."

GTX 260, windows 7 64-bit. When running the game, the screen blanks a couple of times, then it just craps out with the above error.
Any advice, Paradox?

Just found the error dumps, removed them all and generated a fresh one (the stack traces appear to come in pairs):

Registered to say that I've bumped into the same problem as well with a Radeon HD4890 on Win7x64. Updated to the latest drives, etc.

Decided to try and start it in windowed mode to see if it would start and it did.
All you have to do is right click magicka in steam go to properties click set launch options and then type in "-window" without quotation marks, click okay and it will launch in window mode.

I've just confirmed that this works for me as well. Thanks. Not a great permanent fix, but hopefully it will help the Devs figure out what's wrong.

Same. Tried to use windowed mode and it just tells me that windows is looking for a resolution.

I have the same problem. I run an ATI 4870x2 with windows 7, 64 bits.
Funny thing is, I played Magicka before on this very same system and wanted to play after buying the Vietnam DLC. The game booted, but was flickering purple and black all over the shop. I assumed this was because it was trying to run a non-widescreen rsolution on my widescreen monitor, so i tried changing it to widescreen. Since then, the game refuses to boot at all.
Frustrating.

I have same problem wit a ATI Radeon HD 5570 and windows 7 32 bit someone plss help.
acctually i have been running it before on this pc, but when i tryed to set the resolution down (cus of littel online lag) it have been crashing ever since. and i both updatet my card and redownloaded.
Hey guys, IF you have graphics that should work, for everyone with this exact error message:
"No suitable graphics card found.
Unable to create the graphics device.
This program requires pixel shader 3.0 and vertex shader 3.0."
MOSTLY this is Magicka having an unsupported or just weird resolution set. If you can't launch the game windowed. Try deleting/removing settings.sav. Or replace it with this one (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1814698), provided by tacc. Sets Magicka of with low resolution, windowed. After your up and running, reset the game resolution as desired.

ok i had the same error the -window option helped me start the game and when i went to settings i notice that the game started on my desktop resolution 1920x1080 so i put it on full screen and it crashed,so i started again on windows setting and it came back up then i lower the resolution to 1600x1024 on the game and i can now start it normal even if i remove the -window launch option. bottom line is that if you can run it on windows make sure you change resolution and try it hope this helps
