Well, at least fix one part.

type msconfig in 'search programs and files' box.

go to 'boot'

make sure win7/vista is highlighted.

hit advanced options.

click on the limit memory button, and set it to 2048 maximum memory.

Reboot, and youre good to go.

This fools your computer into thinking you have only 2GB of memory. To switch back, just uncheck the box.

Someone else found this fix, but I didn't see it posted.

Awesome fix/find. I remember playing this a few years ago, so bought it when was cheap, and couldn't play now. Fix worked for me last night.

I guess the service pack fixed a number of game related issues.

Thank you. Works like a charm. I only reinstalled the game a week ago, on a brand new system (clean HDD etc), so im guessing the service pack 'fixes' only work for some. I just gotta remember to switch the limited RAM setting back after, coz i got a memory like a goldfish !!

This is not a fix, it is a bad workaround, a fix actually solves the issue. This is just completely ignoring the actual issue.
