Im steam user since 2007 and i never ever had a problem like this , when the last weekly mutation ( wich it was this past friday ) came my l4d2 update got stucked in either on " downloading starting" or " update paused" and if i go into the downloads tab it shows " l4f2 : 7 megas of 35.7 ) and it say " suspended" or nothing at all like if there wasnt anything to dl not even the image with the game about to update, and if i press resume nothing happens or again shows the same messages; also besides this when i try to verify the game files after a long wait ( sometimes less) when it reaches some percent suddenly it closes the validation and it say that " server are to busy ....try again later " But this is happening since the last 3 days , untill today sunday when i decided to try deleting the local files and everything in order to re-dl the whole game again , and now it is worse than before because when steam is preparing the files to install again the game , Yet again the " servers too busy .." bla bla appears But the game list say " downloading started" and Nothing happens .
What i have tried to fix this ? Veryfieng cache wich failed; defragment wich failed saying " steam cannot defrag at 100% percent due a high fragmentation in your hard drive , use the pc tools ..." This can not be possible because i defragmented my HD drive 2 Times manually trough the normal pc tools and it is completely Fine; changed the dl regions getting the same messages and errors ; for the last deleting the local files and installing ( stucked again as i say ) again.
The wierd thing is that all of this is happening Only with L4D2 , i have verified , defrag and such every single game on my list and all those actions Works fine and perfect , currently my steam is downloading-updating 4 of my games in the most normal expected way., but the only one which is stucked in something beyond my acknowledges is L4D2.
I know Valve is a serious company , that is why i been buying games here since several years ago , so I trust that you will review my issue and you will give me a serious responsable answer.

Sorry for the wall of text , but im confused and a bit anxious with this problem, as i said i never ever had such a problem like this , and i can not understand why if the rest of the games are downloading-updating-working fine , L4D2 suddenly is broken or something.

Thanks in advance.
ps: this is the second time i post this because i ddint found l4d2 subforums first , so my apologizes , plz im not trying to spam or anything i just have a real problem and i need some help.

Sorry for the double post , but i need some help or advise plz .
Things got even worst now , i thought that i was deleted all the local files on my l4d2 in order to dl it again and in fact seems to be that way because there was only the game icon and the usual " install game" option on my game list so i clicked and again that " download starting" message and nothing happens and when i checked trough properties/local files it says that Yet is using 7. gigas or so on disk space ....so i logged out steam and manualy deleted the folder and back again to run steam and Again steam say the same " disk usage 7.400 mb" BUT the game itself phisycaly Doesnt exist anymore because i deleted the folder ....Plz what is wrong with all of this ? it looks like that something , somewhere crashed or had a bad function and now steams keep " reading " or detecting that the game exist or w/e.

Cmon plz i need some words of advise , 25 persons has read my thread i can see , plz someone must have some advise or atleast some clue .
Plz i need some advise .

Have you tried disabling your anti-virus or do you have a active firewall blocking downloads?

No firewalls blocking downloads , i have updating l4d2 without any problems since the first day i bought it it is just this time something crashed or something ; and i always disable my antivirus anytime im on steam dling or playing .

Thanks for your advise anyway , i do realy apreciate it.

I fixed my problem, but I'm not sure this will help you guys. Basically, I have a backup copy of (~a month) old steam folder. So, I simply delete left 4 dead 2 folder, copy the old one over, and done. The game works right away, but not up to date. I just make it verify local content and now everything seems updated now except the Steam cloud still say 1MB instead of 1GB.

If un/re-install doesn't work for you, maybe try delete the whole folder (or just rename it) and verify the local content.

Good luck to you all..

Did you make the backup before it started messing up?

Yes.

FYI, I still can't fix the cloud store size. L4D2 is the only game that show 1MB in my library.

I'm assuming backing up now won't do anything then since I tried reinstalling the game and now my download is frozen at 99%.

Go into Steam and change your download server to a different location. Not at a PC right now with Steam on it but it's pretty easy to figure out.

I tried switching to a few different servers but it does the same and goes straight to suspended. I'm not sure what else to do.

Oh my freaking god. After 2-3 weeks and I believe 3 steam updates, it healed itself.
