Hi all,

Ok so, I got this enclosure:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143544
With this hard drive:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173804

I've set it all up as instructed. Plug it in, go to disk manager, and expect for the popup to come up allowing me to initialize the drive. But it doesn't. And it won't let me initialize, format, or create a new partition.

This has rendered it unaccessible.

As you can see, it says "no media" and 0 bytes, and won't let me initialize it.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped :(
I'm on windows XP SP3 (the windows 7 thing is just a theme).

Thanks in advance,
Jack.

Does it show up in My Computer? If it does, when you right click on it is the format option grayed out?

Edit: I see it says no media, so it looks like its recognizing the enclosure, but not the drive inside. Is the power hooked up correctly? (I don't know how external enclosures handle the power.)

Yeah, double check that the power connector is properly connected to the drive within the enclosure. If it is and its still not recognized I would recommend trying the drive internally. Do you have a desktop or have access to one? If so try installing it and see if it's recognized that way. If not send it back for a replacement.

The specs for that enclosure says it handles SATA-150 drives and the drive you have is a SATA-300. It could be the enclosure's SATA controller doesn't negotiate well with that drive. Is there a jumper on the disk to force it to run at SATA-150?

Omg I feel like such a ♥♥♥♥♥♥. After trying it out on all my computers, windows, linux, everything, I read your posts, thought "no way, I wouldn't be that stupid". Opened it up...forgot to plug the power connector into the HDD.

It works perfectly!!

Thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate your help. And rotNdude, I guess they are compatible, since it's working now. I didn't even think about that though. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

+rep for all :)
Thanks guys.

Regards,
Jack.
