View Full Version : Question about analog control

I'm playing Nimbus with an X360 controller and its pretty fun!

However, when I looked up how to get the "Easiest secret in the game" (level 4-1), I found out I had to disable the gamepad to get it because there was a slight drift to the ship otherwise. I had been playing this game the whole time and didn't realize that it wasn't supposed to be that way!

After tinkering with the control settings for a while, I found that most of the drift was coming from the D-pad so unbinding it helped tremendously. However, after more experimentation I've found that the game starts with no drift, and the longer I play a session the more the drift starts to return. Rebooting the game zeroes the drift again.

I've been playing a lot of games with this controller and haven't noticed this problem in any other games, though to be fair, Nimbus is probably a bit more sensitive than anything else I've played. So I can't say my controller is perfect, but at the same time I think there's something wrong with the game instead.

Now for the really bizarre part. If I start getting some drift and unplug the controller you would think that would fix it right? Wrong! The ship still tilts until I reboot the game even after unplugging the controller. However, the tilt DOES stop fluctuating even if I continue playing the game for a while after that.

Is this something with the joystick calibration or what? It's really weird behavior. Thanks for the help!

We've had a report on the analog stick giving slight readings even when in neutral before, that's as you point out clearly a problem on 4 - 1. I'll increase the dead zone a bit. It's weird that you get drift from the D-pad, I'll see if it's the same with the controller here at the office. Under control panel -> Game Controllers one can see all the connected controllers. If you then pick the 360 controller, hit Properties and switch to the Settings tab in the new window there's an calibration option there. Hopefully that can sort it out. Thanks for the report, it's very helpful to know what we can improve upon :)

I just wanted to update this thread to mention that this problem still exists in the game. Using a wireless 360 controller the ship starts drifting to the right after a few minutes of playtime.

Hmmm glad I saw this topic.

I was getting ready to buy this game and I had plans to only play it with a 360 controller. Might see if there is a different $5 game maybe.

Bought the game in the sale yesterday and logged 4 hours so far and it's fun.

BUT i also have this slight drift with the 360 controller and its getting annoying! I thought it was my controller broken at first but it seems i'm not the only one with the problem

Edit: After calibrating, as Sairon suggested, the problem seems to be fixed. This link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906300 shows how to calibrate your controller.

Glad it worked out. We have a new patch coming very soon in which I'm hoping we'll have the sensitivity parameter tweakable in the settings menu. I'll increase it slightly on the default to make it a bit more robust.
