Me and some friends have found a good opportunity for a game of hide and seek within the current mutation 'Nightmare'. It's certainly not what the game was designed for, but we've found it pretty fun anyway.
The fog and realism on survivors allows for you to hide among the survival levels before you trigger the event and hordes show up.
A player is selected to search (eenie meanie miney mo).
the other three players go off to hide in corners cupboards or bushes or climb up high if possible.
once all players are ready they say so in chat and the searcher starts looking.
The first player to be found searches next round.
A player is found when the searcher looks at a hider and uses the 'look' command to say their name. Or shoots them or whatever.
Passing maps seem to be best for this, as they are fairly large and have lots of debris to utilise. Although we have had fun in The Park of Parish, Swamp Fever and Motel.
It is worth noting, that the best hide and seek games will be played while the searcher faces the floor at a given spot of the map (we usually use the event trigger location), and if the searcher removes headphones so doesn't hear nearby footsteps. It is also much harder for the searcher to search without their flashlight.
It goes without saying that this would need to be played among friends. It probably sounds ridiculous, but we actually played this for hours and found it very fun. I'm sure it's got a very limited life span as the maps are fairly single use for this purpose. Anyway, have fun.
It's very entertaining to hide in a bush and have the seeker walk right past you, which actually happens quite a lot.
Lastly, remember to keep your mouse moving so as to avoid going idle and have your character shout, "wait up guys, I'm coming" and run towards the others.
