I Was Going to Buy Them today cause i got payed, and suddenly they are not on steam anymore:confused:

Does anybody know what happened? they were on steam when i did not have the money to buy them..but now that i do they are gone:mad:

am i the only one confused about this?

Also the games are still on my Wishlist from when i added them on Jan 26th.

Looks like they got removed...
I wonder if Sega had uploaded the games without letting the TJ&E creators know about it. Thgat was one of the reasons the games wre omitted from previous comps.

The game no longer appears on the new releases list either... I knwe I should have bought them when I had a chance!

I wonder if it is staying on peoples accounts or if it disappears aswell.

I hope it comes back...it's one of my Favorite games and i would like to add it to my Steam Sega Collection.

Also if they did not have permission to add it to the collection then why did they Release it at all???

I sent a PM to JBurton asking but have not gotten a response.

Dammit. I was waiting until getting paid this Wednesday before picking them up. Hopefully this is just a bug and they get fixed soonish. :(

I have a feeling the TJ&E games are gone for good...

I swear.. Sega treats these classics like a Ron Popeil Rotisserie.

I purchased Toejam & Earl last week it still plays on my pc however if i uninstalled it for whatever reason would i be able to reinstall as it's no longer on steam ?.

Misanthroat
02-11-2011, 02:23 PM
Yeah you should be able to re-install..

It looks like the people that purchased it before it was removed will have it permanently.

I have a similar game (Alien Shooter: Vengeance) that was removed from steam due to publisher / dev issues and I can still install/uninstall.

I contacted Steam Support to see why it disappeared, and was told that...

"The information on the Steam Storefront is the only available information at this time."

Makes me sad. Hopefully it'll come back.

I've contacted Sega, but haven't heard back from them. My next step is to drop a line to the studio that currently owns the rights to TJ&E. It's not looking good though, D2D and GamersGate aren't offering them last I checked, either. :\

Got some awesome news! I contacted ToeJam and Earl Productions to see if they could shine any light on why the games disappeared, and this is what they said.

"Hi, it will be coming back. Sega just sort of jumped the gun before we had a contract in place. Fear not."

I definitely won't miss out on these games a second time.

Sega Genesis Classic Collection Gold Edition for $29.95. Not bad, considering how many games you get. The Sega Classics Packs cost $7.50 each on Steam, so it evens out if you decided to buy all four packs. You’re paying $30 either way.

I would have hoped these games would be back before a large bundle, not that it matters too much. I own all the Sega classics except for ToeJam & Earl and Panic on Funkotron right now. I really wish they'd re-add them already. :\

I was wondering about this issue, I really do hope that everything gets released as intended. I picked up the collection while it was on sale now, which I probably shouldn't have, considering this Gold collection should have a few more games. It would be grand if Steam upgraded the collection for all purchasers and gave those extra few games.

I did play the game around when it was first released by myself :P

It was a friend's copy though, and I was never able to beat it before I gave it back to him. I'd love to play it some more, but as I sold my Genesis a decade or so ago I'm stuck waiting for them to come around and re-release it on Steam.

I really hope this game comes back to Steam and isn't just totally forgotten about. The TJ&E games are probably the only games Sega could rerelease that I would actually pay money for.

EDIT: I emailed T&E productions and got this reply:

Unfortunatley Sega jumped the gun and released it before we had a deal in place. I've been hoping to close the deal for almost 2 years now but it's been hard to get their attention. Sega's lawyers take forever. sigh. Hopefully soon.

Though I have a strong feeling this is local co-op only...like all the sega games and Valve really needs to learn how to tag games as Toejam & Earl is tagged "multiplayer" while other local only games are tagged as "Local Co-op" such as Trine.

The retail version of the Mega Drive pack Gold can be found elsewhere for about 10€.

I don't know why they are so greedy to sell it a that price, they should give it for free to the ones that bought the pack on steam.

Yes, and the original (and arguably better of the two) will hopefully show up before the end of 2013. There's actually three ToeJam and Earl games, but the third one was an XBox game that nobody played. It wasn't horrible, but it's one of those games that just makes you groan. A lot. You also recall incorrectly, and those are examples of shoddy reporting. In my purchase history are all the classic packs separate from all the more expensive games. Searching the forums will bring up topics from people complaining that the sonic games weren't included in the bundles. ToeJam and Earl and Panic on Funkotron were never in the classic packs, and neither were Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Sonic Spinball, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Sonic the Hedgehog, or Sonic 3D Blast. They all were 4.99 (instead of the usual 2.99) and had to be purchased separately.

Edit: In fact: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1732775

all games that cost 4,99 aren't in packs

SEGA considers the Sonic games their "Premium" games I suppose. And they should, it's their top IP. It's always been like this. Just surprised to see the Toe Jam & Earl games go the same route. Guess they couldn't fit these with the Mega Pack.

This is true. Because I too got all of the Sonic games included when I bought the SEGA Classics bundle with all 4 packs. I did not pay separate for the Sonic games. They just threw em in.

I would have honestly rather had TJ&E however, since I own way too many different copies of all the Sonic games already.

Sega Smash Pack vol. 1
Sonic Mega Collection Plus
Sega Genesis Collection x2 on PS2 and PSP
Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection
Plus Genesis carts for several of the old Sonic games

ToeJam & Earl too expensive? Butthurt because none of the TJ&E and Sonic games are included in the packs? This is your lucky week, friends.

Check out Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/SEGA-48-Game-Mega-Arcade-Download/dp/B006J97RSO/ref=br_lf_m_1000716161_1_2_img?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&pf_rd_p=1353483042&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_i=1000716161&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1BZ68Z3PXSETFT1JCR1J) in the next few days, and you can pick up all 48 Sega Classics titles (which, for some odd reason, still doesn't include any Phantasy Star titles...) for a mere $7.50.

It's DRM-free. I should warn you that they give you twelve executables through which to install. That might sound annoying, but it's actually much quicker than installing them through Steam.

If you want to do it quicker, you can just install one of them to get Sega Classics set up, and then and extract the pak files and manuals from the rest with, say, 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.org/), and then place the data and manuals folders where Sega Classics is installed. Not hard.

Unfortunately, Sega Classics isn't particularly Wine friendly, and the interface is fairly awful. As far as I know, there's no known way to extract/convert the pak files into smd/bin files for use with a proper emulator.

Still, you now legally own 48 Genesis/Megadrive titles, so, legally gray as it is, running them in your favorite emulator on your favorite device can hardly be considered any form of theft at that point, especially from a moral standpoint.

The Dreamcast Collection (http://www.amazon.com/Sega-40590-Collection5-Dreamcast-Collection/dp/B004O4C0JW/ref=br_lf_m_1000716161_1_5_img?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&pf_rd_p=1353483042&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_i=1000716161&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1BZ68Z3PXSETFT1JCR1J) is also $7.50 and seems to be DRM-free as well. For some reason, it includes a key that is supposed to be for activation. However, I was able to download, install, configure, and play all four games without ever having to use it.

I have to presume it includes keys as a result of the fact that the Dreamcast Collection titles originally had Starforce DRM. I purchased Sonic Adventure DX from GamersGate back when it had Starforce and was required to use a key in order to activate it. I still have a key attached to my GamersGate purchase record, but after redownloading the installer once it became DRM-free, I no longer had to use the key anymore despite having one.

Be warned that Sonic Adventure DX can be problematic, and does not include any GameGear games.

Crazy Taxi had the licensed advertising and music removed. Pizza Hut is a generic pizza place, and the game itself feels radically different without the familiar tunes.

The collection is one singular download, and the checkmarks in the installer are greyed out, so you must install all of them at once. You will probably require the use of x360ce (http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/) if you do not use an Xbox 360 controller (what else is new? -_-).

For those of you who just love achievements and can't get enough of the world's favorite client-based DRM (you're either on this forum because you like Steam or you're forced to put up with it, and may or may not have convinced yourself to believe that you like Steam), Sonic Generations (http://www.amazon.com/Sega-40836Generations1-Sonic-Generations-Download/dp/B005XOJ6NK/ref=br_lf_m_1000716161_1_1_ttl?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&pf_rd_p=1353483042&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_i=1000716161&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0JQBFDRPQE1RGRV24ZBV), Sonic 4 (http://www.amazon.com/Sega-409174-Episode-11-Hedgehog/dp/B006VJ75J8/ref=br_lf_m_1000716161_1_4_ttl?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&pf_rd_p=1353483042&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_i=1000716161&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0JQBFDRPQE1RGRV24ZBV), and Renegade Ops (http://www.amazon.com/Sega-40806enegade-Ops1-Renegade-Download/dp/B005OCX22C/ref=br_lf_m_1000716161_1_3_ttl?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&pf_rd_p=1353483042&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_i=1000716161&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0JQBFDRPQE1RGRV24ZBV) are on discount as well.

I personally found Sonic 4 to be at least as disappointing as I would have expected it to be. Thankfully, I never bought it. I just played it on a friend's Wii and laughed as people on Steam got themselves hyped up for that same disappointment. It's $5 if you actually want it. Sonic 4 is an episodic game, however, and we've been waiting about a year and a half for it's successor, so just know that you're saving 50% off on one episode of a less-than-stellar platformer. At least wait for an inevitable 75% off sale, if not the complete Sonic 4.

However, Sonic Generations is, at least in my own opinion as a long time Sonic fan, the best Sonic game I've played since Sonic Pocket Adventure over a decade ago, and is the game Sonic 4 should have been. System requirements are pretty beefy, though. It's $7.50, and worth every penny. There's a pinball DLC. It's cheap, it doesn't really add much to the game at all, it's not on sale right now, and it may not keep your interest forever, but it's pretty fun, and at least you don't have to wait weeks just to be able to buy it like I had to.

I don't know a damn thing about Renegade Ops. Amazon tends to hate non-US customers, so your mileage may vary. Good luck!
