I want to change a few skins on Bad Company 2. im bored of the same models. I searched FPSbanana, but i didnt see no skins. I searched the internet and all I found was developer-made skins.

Do custom skins exist?

its a shame the market trend concerning pc games is going towards less user customizations (for free) and more to downloadable content delivery which usually involves costs. the worst thing is the latter just will never saturate the needs of the users looking for an opportunity to customize their game in some way, no matter how much dlc the devs provide

see the old counterstrike games for example, theyre old and rather not innovative any more. but they still offer tons of customization stuff ranging from custom maps, skins, whole player/weapon/game models (!) to sounds, scripts and complete game altering mods

seriously why has this become a dying breed? future titles should offer as much customization as possible to the user instead of narrowing it by price tags and lacking mod/customization support. this is what really puts me off buying future games right now. talking about the newest bf3 I really hope they do it drastically different there

When you want to sell DLC which includes maps, weapons and other models, having an active mod community will limit the amount of interest.

The player will ask himself: "Why would I pay for new maps when there are thousands made every month" Same with weapons and skins.

So, naturally, developpers will limit the amount of freedom modders will have with the game content.

Of course, it's different on console since modding is somewhat impossible or very difficult to achieve. I believe publishers will apply the same standard to PC with most new releases in the future.

Your not allowed custom skins because someone would end up painting the entire enemy team a full neon green colour so they're easier to see.

lol

NO.

You're not allowed to use custom skins, because DICE made fail engine which requires cooking from over 80Gigabytes of data to 8 Gigabytes in order to make it load on consoles in less time than a decade. Also its better to sell skins than allow users to create them for free.

and thats the beauty of it. DLCs just dont cut it. lame and boring. people want THEIR OWN choice of skins.

Well you could argue it is the army, you get what you are given. Also you have a choice, 4 skins right from the start.

As i said before, it is an invitation to cheat. I am glad it isn't in the game.

Game makers have a hard enough time making a game thats even worth playing.

I for one, could care less what my player looks like.

Gameplay > substanceless time wasters.

I whole heartily agree with this.

It's not that DLC is bad, but is it too much to ask for both DLC and customization options? Really, the only AAA games I've seen in the last 5 years or so that include customization options AND DLC, besides Valve's titles, are Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

It gets kinda boring having the same weapons all the time. or the same playermodels. yes, gameplay is the most important part of a game but right next in importance is that you do not get bored of the game. that is why Skins must be available (not DLCs).
For instance, would you like playing through the all the Need For Speed games with 1 car for each game and without the option to customize it visually? I dont think so.
