TF2 item codes question

Does anyone know if you can get the TF2 codes even if you dont own TF2?

basically what I am asking is if I buy the rift pre-order collectors edition ill still get the TF2 codes for the items even if I dont own tf2 right?

no, but there are plenty of us here who play tf2 and got the code for the well spun hat but won't use it.

If you only own Rift you SHOULD in the future still get the TF2 items if you buy it later. Since when you start it up valve sorta searches your cd-key history and gives you your eligible items. The codes in TF2 are an item and they say 'warning this binds to your account' but when you open it all it does is takes you to a web page to fill in to bind the hat code into your account seperately. I didn't submit the form and I copied the key from the URL bar, so I assume that someone else can go to ( http://www.teamfortress.com/rift/claim.php ) and use the code on their accounts even without TF2.

So while you can't claim a code yourself since you don't own the game to get the achievement to get the 'ticket' drop item. You can still use other peoples codes I believe to still get the Rift Hat.
