:mad:I bought this game through steam and pre-ordered, after a while it came up on my steam list as TDU2 but no symbol/icon like any of my other 52 games. The Day comes where TDU2 is released and hey hey, an icon appears next to it. I go onto the Store page on steam on TDU2 and it says buy, you know when I but a game and look at the store page it normally says you allready own this game(is there something going on here that I dont know about?). I then decide to go ahead and download the game and after 2 hours of downloading I try and start up. everything seemed normal when it comes up with downloading update and on the left it says network is set to open or NAT is set to restricted. on the right is where it says servers are up, bottom right it has the steam icon, bottom left it says play. I click play and that closes down to open the game(I supposed it was doing) untill it came up in a box and the error noise saying "This Game Must Be Played Through Steam".....may I kindly politely say WTF IS GOING ON!!! >:( I asked my friend what he did, his store pf TDU says he owns it and he got it all and was playing it. STEAM if your there please answer my problem.

I got the same error when I used the desktop icon (or mapped to the launcher.exe), however it went away when I started the game in the steam menue.

I've got this error too. I've verified my game files and re-downloaded them but it makes no difference. I've raised a support ticket with Steam and hopefully it won't take too long for them to respond.
Djsp8ey: I was wondering if you have your Steam client installed in non-standard location ie somewhere other than the Program Files folder. I've got mine on another drive running out of an old windows installation. All the other games work fine though.

I got the following response from Steam after raising my ticket and this has resolved the problem:
If you are running in Windows Vista or Windows 7, please completely exit Steam, and right-click on the shortcut which you use to launch Steam and select "Run as Administrator." You may need to manually run secondary installers required by this game. Exit Steam entirely. Browse to your Test Drive Unlimited 2 installation folder (Usually C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\test drive unlimited 2\) You will need to run the following installers: ...\steamapps\common\test drive unlimited 2\redist\DirectX\DXsetup.exe ...\steamapps\common\test drive unlimited 2\redist\dotNET\dotNetFx35.exe ...\steamapps\common\test drive unlimited 2\redist\vc_red.msi Then, restart your computer and test the issue again
