If you know me you know I hate console gaming. But now I am being forced to leave my trusty ten year old PC, (recently upgraded a little bit), and go to a new place, they have a PS3. S my question is this. Do I shell out 20 bucks so I can play Orange Box games on the PS3? It's mostly for TF2, but I haven't played Ep 1 or 2 yet either. HL2 + Portal = beaten though. What's your opinion on it? Thanks.

It works fine on the PS3, but this might also be a good time to branch out and play games you wouldn't have otherwise.
There'll be a little bit of a learning curve for aiming, but it should be natural after a week.

I would way rather save up for a new PC if (as you said) you are like me and prefer PC to console.
If it's mostly for TF2 then don't even think about it. I haven't played in a long time but the last few times i tried playing, all the servers were still down.
Even when the servers are working the only games you will find are ones with everyone capitalizing on the bugs and building sentry bases in the sky.
However, if you want to play the other games go ahead. TF2 on the PS3 is appalling, though it is refreshing to look at the game before the game ruining updates.

I doubt the PS3 version even has an active player-base nowadays.
It doesn't work as well as it does on the 360 or PC as it's a port, but overall it's playable.

That's the thing, and I know ima get hate for this, but, I LIKE THE GAME BETTER NOW! Yeah, I know, but I love all the new items! And I don't care if people wear hats or not.

Just wait awhile to play on your PC. It's worth it.

I'm not looking for it as a permanent replacement, just until I can buy a PC, POSSIBLY this summer, 50/50. Tf2 is my favorite game )=

I'd quit gaming forever before I played HL2 on a PoS3
I bought my lad the orange box for tf2,and yet he still waiting to play it online.
By the looks of things they have shut the servers down.
I was ok just before xmas when i tested the ps3 and game, but soon as he got it on xmas day,he has never played it online yet, shame tbh if i knew that was going to happen.
I would have never bought it.

That's fine by me, i'm not going to judge you on that.
My only concern for you is the server downtime (It happens a lot - All servers can be down and i think some will be permanently depending on location) and the legitimacy of matches.
I guarantee that if you do eventually find a server most of your games will involve everyone exploiting the many bugs that were in the initial release of TF2 - Most common is everyone in the sky spamming the respawn with unbalanced teams like 13 vs 2.

I have a friend who says the PS3 version was riddled with people exploiting like Pebr said. He said it has been a while, though - maybe a year.
Here's (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=324) the console section for the Orange Box in case you want to putt around there a bit.

Thanks for input, I guess it's not worth it. Any other really cheap FPS for ps3? All it has now is MW2.

You're looking for a good FPS on the PS3? How about some CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS?
(just kidding, don't hurt me please)

I have BOwii already, (which is a very balanced, very fun game).

Go for some PS3 exclusives, like Killzone 2. :)

I dunno yet if it's gonna be cheap, but Bulletstorm (http://www.bulletstorm.com/) may be worth research & consideration. It's incoming & isn't far off from being released. In the meantime, the PSN has a free Bulletstorm Demo that may be worth trying out for ya. I personally enjoy it, but I dunno if you will or not. :)
Hope this helps.

Looks quite fun. But 60 bucks is way to much. That money could be going into my $450 budget PC, (of which I have $350).

Personally, I'd also suggest goign for some of the exclusive PS3 games, just for variety.
You can pick up Uncharted (the first one) very cheaply now, likewise Resistance, and Resistance 2. Uncharted 2 would be great, if you don't mind paying a little more, as well as Killzone 3.
I could suggest more, but I guess that should whet your appetite.
Just fired up TF2 and couldn't find any games..

You might enjoy MAG, its a massive online FPS that can have over 250 players in a single game, I think.
Dunno how PSN works, but it might have some good indie/oldies games on there. I recently started playing old titles again on my 360, and they're loads more fun than most modern games :D

Pssh...
I bought most of the games I played in my young childhood via the Wii's virtual console. I nostalgia'd hard, and let me tell you, Super Mario World is my personal favorite game of all time.
Even the 20 year old classics continue to be funner than modern games.
What does that tell you about the recent decrease in game quality? :(
Wow, that was off topic.
Anyways, I heard MAG isn't actually that good. I heard the games can get really laggy, and the gameplay isn't very fun.
OP's decision, though. You may want to research MAG, OP.
Maybe if you get used to PS3 you'll stop your console bashing, too. ;)

I have orange box on ps3, people still play tf2 but it's pretty much empty. (last I played at least, which was a few months ago).
If you're looking for a new game to play until you get a new pc, I suppose it's good, but I'd suggest buying something else for the ps3, and get the orange box on pc (esp since it'll probably go on sale in the next sale). Get uncharted if you are looking for story, uncharted two for story and multiplayer, resistance one or two (2 is still active online). Killzone 3 will be out soon , either wait for that or try killzone 2 and get 3 later. there's plenty to get for the ps3

Or wait a few more weeks for Killzone 3 :p
And I'm going to try my best and ignore the senseless console bashing (Really, it's pathetic) Since The Orange Box on PS3 was a sloppy port done by EA; I wouldn't really recommend it. I doubt the online community is active either. Try some other games, mostly the exclusives.

No, I seriously doubt it.
For one, it runs through PSN, so I doubt they'd bother changing it over (even if it were as simple as that).
Secondly, it was a port done by EA, so I doubt the decision would rest with Valve.
Somewhat OT, what I am intrigued by is what they're doing with Steamworks and the forthcoming Portal 2 release.
Not only will users on PC and PS3 be able to play together, but users on the PS3 will get copies for the PC and Mac FREE!
I'm unsure whether this is a regional thing, however. It may be old news to some, but I only came across it in PC Gamer today.

Like someone else said in this thread, you should branch out and try playing something new. Here are some great suggestions which are "greatest hits" titles so their relatively cheap:
- Resistance: Fall of Man
- Resistance 2
- Metal Gear Solid 4
- Killzone 2
- God of War Collection
- God of War 3
- Uncharted: Drakes Fortune

I really don't understand your logic. Its Valve's game, They can do it if they want.

The PS3 version of Orange Box is EA's game, not Valves, and Valve even went public in saying that they wanted nothing to do with EA's port.

Where's the quote for that? You don't think that since Valve has PS3 devs now they'll be able to work on updates for it? I don't think it would be that hard for Valve to acquire EA's work and do it.

Oops, my apologies. I hadn't even tried to look at Bulletstorm's Price. *blush* There's another Shooter I have given consideration to as well called 'Vanquish', & it too may warrant research & consideration. I looked it's price up on GameSpot, & it says it's possible to get this game at $25ish bucks. If this is a true price for this game, maybe this one will be more up your alley. :D This one has 2 Demos for it on the PSN. One is a Demo Level for it's Main Game, & the other is a Demo Level of it's 'Challenge Mode'.
Hope this helps. (better than my prior attempt.)
