I'll be getting the boxed version. The only Valve games I don't have the boxes for are the pre-HL2 games (HL1 related stuff). I do have the Counter-Strike (old) box though.

As for all the pre-order button for Steam issues, I read somewhere due to the recent tension over Steam DD vs. Retailers, Gabe said something about Portal 2 not taking away from Retail sales.

It MIGHT very well NOT be up for pre-oder in Steam.

I might be wrong, we will find out in a couple of hours when Valve usually does "it" (Valve games) specific updates.

But just preparing people for what might happen.

I guess I was wrong with my guess. Portal 2 is on pre-oder now and 10% off.

The only thing pre-order comes with on Steam is a free copy of Portal 1 that can be gifted, not much considering a ton of people have it now due to "free give away".

I am not complaining just saying there is no reason for me to pre-order it as it won't get me the game faster than buying it on day-1.

The first portal was ok but nothing worthwhile, Valves games since episode 1 have been at best average but hey they might release episode 3 with some effort actually put into it

Likewise. It just doesn't work as well with PCs, IMO. I'm a PC gamer through and through, however, when someone has a console, you can go over to their place and just play a game on that same console, same TV and the same room.

On PC - it's always "oh, yea, hold on, lemme watch this video, let me take out the trash, oh &%$&, brb [comes back 17 hours later]". That's just my experience, anyway.
