Wouldn't it be the same as:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ955FBGMBOX (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808):confused::confu sed:

no. phenom II's are faster clock per clock than athlon II's (about 5-8% faster iirc).

Not to mention that the Athlon IIs lack the L3 cache that the Phenom IIs have. And an OC'ed CPU will most likely require require more cooling than an equivalent speed stock CPU.

Incorrect

Per clock, the performance is identical. The only time it makes a difference is when you run a program that makes use of the 6MB L3 cache. In that case, the Phenom II's will win every time. Architecturally, though, the Phenom II and Athlon II chips are exactly the same.

Also, Phenom II's are higher binned chips than Athlon II's, so they overclock quite a bit better as well. (I've never seen an Athlon II X4 hit 3.9Ghz on air. However, my PII X4 965BE is running 24/7 @ 3.9Ghz on air, no problem.)

No, it would be an Athlon II X4 overclocked to 3.2GHz.

i still dont see how im incorrect. All im saying is if you have a phenom II and athlon II at the same clock speed the PII will be usually faster for whatever reason (in this case its cache). Wrong?

Technically.. Architecturally there all the same since 2003.. Only changes have been to MCH no of core and cache level's

Bulldozer will be AMD's first Architecture chance in almost 10 year's :eek:

Yes. wrong. It's because you said they were faster PER CLOCK, which is incorrect. The Phenom II's are faster because of their L3 cache. If you had said that, you would have been correct. By comparison, the i3/i5/i7 CPU's are faster per clock than the Phenom II/Athlon II CPU's. That is a true statement. ;)
