I've got Port Royale 2. Max resolution is about 1024x786 - very hard to use interfece like that. And its looks like crap. Played for around 20 minutes, while I have around 15h in East India Company and Patrician IV. Maybe thats not very much, but more or less I can tell when a trading game sucks.
But I'm yet to play Commander: CotA, with I will definitelly fix today as I bought it. Looks very nice and you can get cash not just with trade, with spices things up.

I heard this is a decent game but it wasn't worth the full price on retail. But 14.99 with all the DLC sounds alright. I kind of feel like getting it but not sure if it'll get enough playtime.

I got 40 hours of Port Royale 2 on 22" widescreen and there is nothing crap about it. You are probably just a gfx ♥♥♥♥♥. Suck it up mate.
On the other side, I got 10 hours on CoTA. While the game has nice gfx, the gameplay is absolutely horrible. You cannot go into the towns, there is annoying voice for everything you click, but thank god you can disable that.
PR2, along with Patrician is still the god of these games. Nothing can come close to it.
Go back to PR2 and don't be such a kid.

15$ for the complete pack is a pretty decent deal but not a penny more.
As a game it's "ok" (Say 75/100 OR 3/5) but it has, atleast in my opinion, some serious flaws and total ♥♥♥♥ up's.
Not a bad game + content pack for 15$.

I took the advice of Skullzyer and bought Port Royale 2 for 5 bucks. Looks great.
As for this game...I'll keep looking at sales and see if it ever goes under 15 for the complete back and think about buying it.

Oh come on. I was playing games from 80' and 90' on a PC bought around 00' and as long as there was good gameplay I would enjoy it. But if I can get same gameplay with better interface I will take that. PR2 and Patrician are trading games and trading only. While CotA is trading + naval battles game. In Patrcian you beat your opponents economically, in CotA you do that with naval power. I find Patrician to go boring too soon, it has not enough ports and goods for variety. Its nice you can directly manage city and decide what and where to build, but I still would have preferred to just get rid of my competition by force. And you can get better force only if you are better at trading/diplomacy.
If you played East India Company then you will notice that CotA is pretty much sequel to that - improved East India Company, placed in Americas instead.

LOL, PR and Patrician are not only trading games. In PIV battles suck, in PR2 battles are much more simplified, in PR1 battles are much like in CoTA. BTW, you can win in CoTA without attacking a single opponent ship.
CoTA wanted to be Port Royale/Patrician clone, and it failed a lot trying to become one.
I choose gameplay over graphics anyday. You kids should too.

Just bought this game for $15 from Valve Steam on 2-25-11 at 9am. Don't buy it for more than 99cents it is junk. I want my money back and I'm going to contest the charge on my card. All this game does is give you stress. It's more like working on your taxes than enjoying a video game. If you want a pirate game the best one is sid myers pirates. and the best sea battles is total war and napoleon,You cant never get enough money to play decent and the trading is a confusing mess.and you cant do a money cheat on steam or they suspend your account. I rate this game dont want it for free.

Actually the best pirate game is Sea Dogs and after that it's Pirates! Gold. Sid Meier's Pirates is a game for 5 year old with graphics similiar to the scenery in teletubbies.
Personally haven't found a game that has good sea battles as I never bothered to buy ETW or NTW.

Good game not a great game, a few bugs and there is room for improvement, much better version of EIC. It is well worth the $15 you can really waste a lot of time with it, I have had it for about a week now played for about 30hrs and I am only a third way through the game and already thinking ahead of what I will do differently when I replay the game.
I can't wait to see what else we get from these guys, hopefully some more good DLC and their next game in this genre will hopefully set the standard for all naval games that is if they don't royally ♥♥♥♥ it up
