View Full Version : [Suggestion] Seeing Yourself

There is one big thing that I sorely miss from the first L4D, something that didn't really add anything to gameplay, but added a lot of depth to the immersion:

Looking down, and being able to see your own body in first person. I know that this feature was cut from the console version of the game since it didn't have the power to render out the additional model, but I see no reason what-so-ever for then going and removing it completely from even the PC version in L4D2.

Heck, if it's about the extra model adding too much strain on the average users system, then make it into an option in the graphics settings to enable/disable the "see body in first person" option, I know for a fact that a lot of our rigs can handle the extra strain it might cause.

So, that's my suggestion, seeing your own body like we could in L4D1. I have no idea if it is relevant or not, but it was a feature which I thought added a lot of depth to the immersion, and the lack of a first-person model really makes you feel like you're just controlling a disembodied flying torso...

But that's just my two cents.

For one its pointless. I recently tested an old custom L4D campaign in L4D. I had Zoey, I looked down to see what all the fuss is about, and all I saw was a pair of straw-skinny legs shuffling about. Nothing about it looks good, an utterly pointless feature which Im glad to see it removed in L4D2.

I love the L4D1 body awareness but... I don't think that has anything to do with the Cold Stream DLC, lol.

In a sense, it does, since they are taking suggestions as to what to add in the DLC update, and what I made was a suggestion of an added feature, even if it does not directly impact the gameplay in Cold Stream.

Except the "see your feet" bit doesn't relate to Cold Stream at all. It's just an overall game enhancement suggestion.

And Cold Stream is a dlc about enchancing the game so lets start by fixing the downgrades l4d2 brought.

I totally agree that legs should come back. I loved looking down and there my feet were!!! l4d1 was the First valve game to have it, and then l4d2 its gone... so PLZ valve bring it back.

I have said this a few times now. They aren't making L4D3!! It's a DLC! stop getting carried away. I just hope that Valve doesn't actually use these. L4D2 is good as it is. mainly the reason why so many of thousands of players enjoy this game. I'm all in for new weapons like the golf club was for The passing, but be reasonable people

I wouldn't say l4d2 is good as is... There are quite a few bugs that have been there since release date.

I think EVERYONE knows this. But i'm talking about this glorious DLC. Ppl keep getting carried away thinking their gonna put in such huge things that would change the game itself, like new SI. we don't need new SI.

Great idea, but I like what they did in Doom 3 when you looked into a mirror in the bathroom that you could see your own reflection. Although, there isn't any mirrors that I am aware of in L4D series campaigns, but perhaps your own reflection off the water may interest some players. The forth campaign could have mirror or two in a bathroom or where ever the design atmosphere allows it.

There is a difference from aesthetic fixes to a problem that has annoyed l4d1 players for a long time, and adding completely big new gameplay elements. We have enough SI, but Valve said themselves this Dlc will be gameplay heavy so lets work on making l4d a better game.

Sorry, but I agree with this. I certainly wouldn't complain if they added what you are talking about, but I won't complain if they don't either. You should post this in the general thread, as this really seems more like patch material than campaign material.

They already added a fov command, but with the way viewmodels are handled... Its hard to make it look like tf2 or even l4d1

Valve, you must do this. It's one of the awesome things in L4D1.

But there is the problem. Valve isn't helping on ANYTHING, except the porting of the original maps. might as well scrap this idea

like the copy & paste sig? i plan on using it for awhile :D
