So, after a couple of years these ID's have gotten a bit confusing for the casual steam users.
Everyone has 3-4 ID's right now:
Their account login: awesomename12 (which some people consider as a steam ID)
Your steam ID: STEAM_0:1:1234567
Public Profile link: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198031036672
Optional:
Public Profile ID link: http://steamcommunity.com/id/Shrewball
Some users seem to confuse the login name with their Profile ID. They keep typing in their login name into things like tf2items.com and other similar sites and complain that it's broken. It's just very frustrating for developers sometimes.
There are also other situation such as new steam users.. You have to give them like a small crash course for them about steam sometimes.
My suggestion would be maybe forcing the user to get a public profile ID or reducing the amount of ID's that you have. What do you think?
