Is the only difference between melee weapons the speed they swing at?

And how awesome they look! :D

There's a list of weapons damage over time vs a Tank here (http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100609171650/left4dead/images/f/f3/Weapons_effectiveness_on_tank2.jpg) that you can check out. You'll see MOST melee weapons are pretty much the same with some small differences here and there.

They also have different hit rays/arcs.

For example: You'll notice if you have a bat, guitar, you can swing and turn taking out a huge section of the horde. Yet with something like a frying pan, machete, tonfu, you cannot.

Yes, and because of this, the katana is considered the best melee weapon, due to the consistent, large amount of hitrays it has, while maintaining a good speed. The fireaxe comes after it, having more hitrays, but significantly slower speed.

Weapons like the machete will at times swing in different ways, which actually does affect the hit rays.
