So, I prepurchased Assault Squad yesterday after reading that rock, paper, shotgun review. I am... Well I am typically not good at these sorts of games. I sucked horribly at CoH. But I read in the review that this is one of the awesomest coop games ever made, so I had to get it.

What will be a good way for me to learn how to play? Are there vets online who help out noobs in coop and stuff?

I'm a bit of a noob too but I'm sure there are people out there. I prefer the single player myself because then I'm not tied to the pc for the duration.

But all I can say is "ouch" because this is harder than CoH, you have to treat every unit like its gold and theres a lot more of them so you'll have to consider this a game you'll lose a bunch before you win.

If you play coop, it's best you start off with easy and some friends, or join a game with more players.

It's recommended to play the Introduction mission which will guide you through the basic elements of the game. Then you can have a look at the guides written by other users:

The game can be a tough nut to crack, but it will keep you entertained for a very long time if you play with the right sort of people who help you getting into it.

I have 500 hours of time logged playing this game through steam(including 50 hours of red tide time) and i still suck at it... If it wasnt so darned fun the few times that i was able to pat myself on the back after an extremely rare victory i would have given it up long ago. But despite how unbelievably tough it is on anything but the easy setting its worth playing. And for the MP games... Even when i get my ♥♥♥ kicked i still get in the odd AT Nade on top of an enemy Super Heavy tank that just makes my day.

Press backspace and turn slow down time. In missions with lots happening all at once i find it a must, and i usually slow it alllll the way down to 1. The AI is a beast which can make hundreds of decisions/actions per second, you are merely human :P

This is if you're practising single player!
