Hi,

What do you think?

Is it better to play Bulletstorm using keyboard + mouse or using, for example, the Xbox 360 PC joystick?

I am asking it because this is a "different" shooter.

Thanks in advance for your help. :)

Play with whatever you're more comfortable with. Keep auto-aim on if you use a 360 controller though.

I liked it more on the 360 controller, but that's a personal thing.

AA not needed with the controller, but it helps..
then again it helps with the mouse, depends on your skill level with the control of choice.

i use keyboard/mouse myself, but the controller is an alternative when gaming on the go in my car with the laptop.
shame the laptop HDD died.. but the warranty i bought covers that :)

tbh most GFWL games in the past have had extreme recoil when using mouse/keybo and compensation for using the gamepad (Halo 2, Fallout 3, and GoW all have it for examples) it was done to balance between gamepad vs mouse/keybo users in MP modes (though in FO3 i don't have a clue)
Bulletstorm is the first i've played with GFWL that doesn't do this.

It's really up to you. I'd say it's better with a mouse once you disable mouse smoothing (and if you don't have a high dpi mouse).

Controller controls horrendously as always. They have no business in any games involving aiming of any kind (especially fps). You can't do anything while aiming cause its the same finger (thumb) that controls your looking. Its total crap. Whether or not a game is "designed" for controller, a M+K will always be better.

Personally I use the 360 controller, it is just built for it. I love my deathadder but some games are just better with the controller and this is one of them.

I'm not going to argue this because well ... who cares? All that matters is what people prefer. Seriously though, to me playing a shooter with a controller is as comfortable as playing pool with boxing gloves on.

FPS games are more easy with mouse and keyboard... Point and click.
^ not debatable.

I use mouse+keyboard, I tried the demo on my Xbox 360 but the controller makes doing many skillshots more difficult, as they often require precise aim.

I'm having a lot more fun using the mouse for aiming.

mouse, keyboard are always winning. period. it's faster, I can react very quickly. I think that I could be more than twice faster than console gamer. no mistake.

grammar are more easier with grammar.
Sorry, thats just trolling. Feed me. Anyway OT:

I prefer mouse and keyboard to play FPS's, and this is likely to be no exception, but it seems like a game that would be very fluid with a controller, so it may work quite well. Having said that, I bet it would be easier to get the highest scores in multiplayer, and chain combos more faster-er (sorry, "with more efficiency") with the mouse and keyboard combination.

Its always fun to see these threads on m+k vs gamepad devolve into poo-flinging. Which is why I have my grammar naz* hat on, it adds more to the party.

Go with what you enjoy. Personally I wouldn't play any game involving aiming weaponry with a pad. Pad = driving games for me, nothing else.

If your KB & Mouse skills are under-developed and you use a controller a lot then this wil of course be the better option for you, visa versa, if you hardly touch a controler KB & Mouse will be better.

Some footage of BlOps MP on 360 being played with a KB and Mouse using an XIM3. I know it's not the greatest of games and there may even be some complete CoD hate campaigners out there but I used this vid because it simply shows how big the gap can be between a controller and a KB & Mouse. Yes, the other people playing could have been crap, but it's still interesting stuff... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxLPmrZbWjw

Once you get used to a gamepad you will seriously find it hard to go back to K/B and mouse. Been a PC gamer for over 15 years and hated gamepads to bits until about a year and a half ago.

Obviously, using them against K/B and mouse players online would be just stupid but for casual single play they are fantastic.

Controller all the way its not a PC only hardcore FPS its a multiplatform game design built around gamepads & having 12 buttons at your disposal. I hate to think how frantic this would be on a keyboard!!!

never co-op with me online.. I like my partners to not aim like inebriated monkeys.

If you want to play shooters with a controller buy an xbox, lol.

For some PC games I prefer to use the 360 controller for single player and this is definitely one of those games.

Same for me I'm a PC gamer first and foremost but I've got quite use to the 360 controller and for a quite a few of my games I have to say for single player at least I the controller over my keyboard and mouse.

Of course it is, if you have problem learning stuff, or coordination problems.
Glad you found something that worked for you.

Just use the input method you like the most. That doesn't mean you always have to use a controller or always M+K. The decision should depend on the game/genre. There is really no problem to play e.g. FPS with M+K and Jump & Runs with a controller. And it's also fine to play it the other way around if you like it better that way.

But I am still pretty sure that e.g. a M+K player in a FPS would be much better in MP deathmatch than a gamepad user (assumed there is no auto aim and both players have the same basic knowledge of the game).
The same would be true for real time strategy games and probably the opposite in fighting or sports games.

OP... THIS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joystick)is a joystick. THIS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamepad)is a gamepad.

I hate when people make this mistake.

I suppose you're Russian (I am too), and people around here make this mistake all the time. :)

For my first playthrough, I decided to play with my controller and it was great. I'll probably try it with my MX518 sometime later, but I think the controller layout works best for Bulletstorm, especially with all those extra actions you have to access quickly to do the combos.

Learn how to control a fps game with mouse and keyboard, because once learned you will never go back, and the possebilitys (And Joy) of absolute control in an virtual envirement helps developer in creating richer gameplay not just cut stuff out like jumping and aiming and the future of FPS gaming would look a lot brighter. The thing is, It takes time to learn and at first its very frustrating and there is a chance newcommers dont understand how natural and wonderful it actually feels once mastered, and if peaple stops investing time in learning, slowly. there will not be real movement in FPS anymore. If it werent for Counter strike that fosters new mouse and keabords generations it would look very bad for all of us that come to love our virtal freedom we know we can only achive with Mouse and Keyboard.

Quake 3 railgun + jumpads, anyone?

Firstly, I'll say I'm an FPS purist - so my opinion is always going to be mouse + keyboard :)

Secondly, the technical facts don't lie - it's impossible for an analogue stick to provide what the mouse provides. A mouse is "adaptable" - with a single sensitivity, you can control (to a pretty incredible degree) how quickly your view turns. With exactly the same precision, you can turn 5 degrees to pinpoint your shot, and you can also turn 180 degrees (with a few degrees for error) with a "flick" of your wrist. This isn't possible on a stick - even with acceleration options aiding it. The thing that's lacking is the precision, and it's impossible for the hardware involved to match the mouse - it's also impossible for your thumb to have the same precision given by your wrist/hand, given the need for constant and quick reactions.

Thing is though, you might not be comfortable with it - in which case, your own personal experience will be that you get better results on the analogue sticks :) If this is the case, I say persevere - it really is worth it.

About the only FPS games I got good results with on the pad, were GoldenEye N64, and Time Splitters on GameCube - essentially the same engine and controls. Back in the days of Dreamcast though, I convinced a friend to get Quake 3 - he also had the mouse and KB for the DC. So I got on those (naturally :)) and went up against people playing on the pad - suffice to say, they had an evening of absolute misery :) lol
