I've played this game before, but I've just reinstalled it on my computer. So I know that it works, or at least should work. I'm not sure if an update did something to me or if my computer is having issues. Here's my problem.

I've downloaded Episode 1 and it didn't run. I ran the check file integrity and it came up OK. Still didn't run. I uninstalled and reinstalled and it still doesn't work.

The error if I double click on the shortcut on my desktop says, "Failed to load launcher DLL: The specified procedure could not be found."

If I go in my steam folder and open up steamapps/accountname/Half Life2 Episode one and then double click on HL2.exe it says, "The procedure entry point Is64BitOS could not be located in the dynamic link library tier0.dll.

I found tier0.dll, it's in the game folder in the steamapps folder, but I can't initiate it.

So I don't know what to do. Has anyone else experienced this?

Nevermind, I found a fix. Delete the steam/steamapps/(account name)/Half Life 2 Episode One/Bin folder. Then run it and it'll work.

Strange, but true.

Was having the same issue with Portal this solution works, yes strangely enough. Actually theres a lot in the bin folder and after deleting it. After playing I verified the cache again to see if there was anything necessary missing and everything came up validated ok. So then I checked the bin folder for Portal again and everything was replaced so I would go with the assumption that a verify will not check for corruption or replace a missing file here as they are not as individual files part of the download/update process and appear to be extracted on game start-up from a different file.

But in Short

This Solution Works.
