As you know, it's coming. I loved the first one and looking forward to the sequel, despite the fact that it's got a terribly cheesy name (Silent Hill: Revelation(s?)) and they changed director and writer.

Apparently it'll be based on SH3 (my fav of the series) and Heather Mason, along with the rest of the cast, will soon be announced; here is the director's blog where you can read up on that: http://michaeljbassett.wordpress.com/

Don't think l played SH3. I did love SH2 however. Wonder why they skipped it?

EDIT.. l just read the plot on wikipedia, SH2 would be a new story line.

Awesome, I can't wait. I loved the atmosphere and style of the first one, but the script and acting was hilariously bad. Here's hoping this one can get both right.

Yeah. It is based off the video game of the same name. You know that place that they go to? It's called--brace yourself for this--Silent Hill.

Yeah, that scene cause me to go "holy sh!!", something I've not said during a movie for many years. I loved the "dark hour" periods that showed up once in a while when all of the baddies would appear suddenly. And while Pyramid Head is a bad ♥♥♥, the Janitor was just ungodly - I'd love to see more of him.

I know SH game purists were upset at some parts, but I think the movie did well enough to those of us who don't play the game. I'm sure there is a tremendous amount of material to cull from the games, so some of it simply couldn't make it into the 2 hours the movie ran.

Any idea on how they're going to link the two movies?

SH1 and SH3 are linked as Heather Mason is the adopted daughter of Harry Mason, which takes place at the end of SH1. This didn't take place in the movie, as the movie ended (l think) with the father being in the same room as the Mom and daughter but they can't see each other as the mother and daughter are still in the Silent Hill reality.

My theory is that the Mother and Daughter are actually dead, they just do not realize it.

According to Wikipedia, they're in the Silent Hill alternate reality. That's why when Christopher (husband) goes to Silent Hill, it looks different.

Rose and Sharon leave Silent Hill and return home. Although Rose and Sharon are in the same room as Christopher, who has also returned home, they cannot see each other, because Rose and Sharon, still surrounded by mist now exist in another reality as a result of entering Silent Hill.

Oh they're dead. D8

I personally liked the film. It was sort of a mix of the first two games, and yet at the same time it's more of a stand alone story. I didn't feel like they tried to base it on one game, rather they took the idea of the games and works with it. I would definitely not look at it as a game to film thing. It isn't solely based on one game, so kind of hard to do that anyway.

I look forward to a second though, but if it is based on the third game, lets hope it gets pulled off well. Less room to ♥♥♥♥ up if it's based off a game.

Alone in the Dark was better - a masterpeiece, infact.

It was a masterpiece, in that it was a masterpiece of how to do the very worst in cinema. A truly dreadful piece of film.

I thought the first Silent Hill movie was the best video game franchise, but that's not saying a lot. It was a pretty average film, only made better because of my liking of the game.

Sadly, this director does look like a step backwards. His other films are the usual Hollywood-style dross. And it's in 3D too, which says it all - cash cow.

Ah never mind. Hopefully sometime soon somebody'll realise that video games and films don't mix.

At least it's not Uwe Boll though, which is saying something.

Thanks, but I'll stick to real films, not this mindless rubbish.

the first film was really bad. it ruined everything that made the game so good, like the idea of a mother keeping her burnt daughter alive in living hell for the sake of birthing her cult's god, who they turned into a crazed religious woman on a witch hunt. lisa, whose death is probably the saddest part of the entire series, got a 2 minute cameo, as did PH and the nurses.

I was referring to the likely outcome of the OP's film, i.e. the 2nd one, and that the director's pretty crap (unlike the first, where the director and writer both loved the game with something like a passion).

Oh, and 3D - don't forget the 3D ... the latest must-have for all crap films *shudders*

Any scene with Pyramid Head is legendary, he was such an iconic figure in SH2. Pyramid Head is basically a physical manifestation of anger, hate and guilt. SH3 had some pretty memorable enemies, such as the giant, fat creatures (Cancers?) and the missionary, who basically has blades for hands.

"The powers that be have now decided to withhold the official announcement of who is playing Heather Mason until Monday when we start principal photography. This is all to do with maximising the coverage they think they’ll get etc. So I guess you’re all going to have simmer for a while longer. What I can tell you is that I did camera tests yesterday with her and she looks absolutely awesome. I’m sure you guys are going to just fall in love with her. Tough but vulnerable and capable of delivering a knock-out performance. And because you’ve all waited so long, I’ll make sure a picture gets released with the news."

I don't like the decision on Actress for Heather, Hair style seems off to. Couldn't they get that right? The set shot also makes it look like she knows how to handle a gun.. in the game she didn't handle the guns properly.. so meh. I'll pass on this film.. Assuming they will go with BADASS FEMALE PROTAGONIST.. ala Resident Evil films.

Whilst I don't mind a bit of leeway regarding look, assuming it's offset by fine acting, I agree entirely that her handling the gun so confidently is rather worrying.

Her vulnerability is one of the very points that made Heather what she was in the game. I fear you may be right. This director, who may well be a Hollywood "darling" (i.e. bows to their whims) looks like he's going down the "badass" route. Shame, I'll keep an eye on it, nonetheless, but I don't hold out much hope.

"End of week 2. The days are pretty damn hard but the crew are working like maniacs and I think some good stuff is being generated. It’s really impossible to know how well anything will turn out until after it’s all put together so I never rave or get too positive at this stage. I’m simply trying to get as much done as possible with the time and budget I’ve been given. As you know both Radha and Sean Bean have come back to reprise their roles. Sean, especially, has done some great work this week. He’s very much at the emotional core of what I’m doing in this story and he’s stepped up to the plate. I’ve never worked with him before but he’s been a pleasure and much more relaxed and easy going than I’d expected. His connection with Heather has to feel real and I think (hope) we’ve got it in the scenes they share together.

Apart from finding the emotional heart of Heather, Adelaide has been having a great time with all the stalking along the dark corridors – she’s a bit of a nerd at heart and loves this kind of thing. I think she likes the fact that the monsters on the sets are virtually all real and not CG. It’s much easier for her to generate that pure visceral response when staring into the face (or none-face in some cases) of the denizens of Alessa’s nightmare world. And I’ve seen her genuinely freaked out and a little shaky when facing one of the creatures in the darkness. A good actor puts themselves in the mind-set of their character, so it’s not surprising she gets a little frazzled on occasion. I really LOVE that aspect of film making. And, even though I promised never to go over to the dark side of 3D and have things leaping out at the audience – there are a few times when it’s been simply too delicious not use – and I’m sure that even the most cynical amongst you will enjoy it. Or maybe not… I guess we’ll see."

Even if I am a fan of a game and I watch the movie, I expect it to do its own thing, not copy the games and please a very small portion of the audience, meaning the hardcore fans. That said, I expect the movie to at least understand what the games were doing and in the case of Max Payne, those people just didn't get it. They didn't even make the effort of understanding it. How is it even possible to ♥♥♥♥ it up that much, despite the obvious fact they were just cashing in?

I think Silent Hill on its own, and I haven't played the games, did a good job of making it interesting to the average cinema goer. It's still the best live-action game-to-film adaptation, imo.

That's a fair point to make. From what I know of Silent Hill, seen, heard and read, I have a general idea of what it's about, why it's a loved franchise, etc. But yes, I can only criticize the film itself, not if it's actually a successful game-to-film adaptation, in that sense.
