View Full Version : What I want is customizable summary tables

Basically like the summary figures in the beta. The key features would be
1. Available for the globe and each region
2. Given in table format
3. Which data is presented is customizable
4. The data can be presented as either values (MtCO2e) or percentages (also customizable)

Basically, I miss the global and regional summary tables from the beta. The extra information is great, but being able to get the most important info for the globe and regions at a glance was invaluable. But I'd like the ability to customize which info is presented for each region or the globe. For example, I'd want parameters related to HDI displayed in North Africa but not necessarily North America. Something like a customizable spreadsheet would be perfect.

Iselwin made a similar comment about the UI. We feel much the same way you do.

What we resolved to do after the beta was try and expose the model more fully to you. We barely completed that work in time for launch, but it has been highly revealing: every day I better understand what is important to see. We're likely to move forward to a situation where the critical elements are always on screen, and with a layer of tables. There are other issues, e.g. as Iselwin commented, HDI really should be on the world overview! and I would like Attitudes to be on the permanent HUD, rather than on a toggle. We'd like it see the visual appeal enhanced too.

We will be patching Fate regularly and notifying you about it. As an Indie we needed to launch the game and I hope everyone understands that, but we're committed to listening to you. Interfaces will receive attention, the gameplay will be tuned (we eased off on money and support, and want to pull that back) and there were elements of the narrative that we couldn't tackle as fully as we wanted like migration, more detailed biodiversity, international relations, more detailed water, etc... Further performance optimisation will also be done.

Thank you for playing and posting!

One thing that I think would help tremendously is context links. If I open up news and I'm reading that the Energy sector is suffering from an Oil shortage, I should be able to click on Energy to see the Energy info panel, or click on Oil to see the Oil panel.

Even just a mouseover summary would be nice. For example, if I see a news report about a region destabilizing, it would be nice to be able to mouse over and see what the stability is at.

That would go a long way towards giving us quick access to the info we need, when we need it.

Thanks for the response. I really appreciate this type of feedback from game devs and think you guys have put out a great game. While the stuff I mentioned would be great, I think the core idea is that I want to be able to quickly and easily see the most relevant data for each region per turn. The interface is vastly improved from the beta with all of the important data available. Even if you don't use my suggestion, I'm confident you will find a great way to organize the data.

Music to my ears indeed! One notice though: while "Oil crisis" is a breeze now, "3 degrees" is still quite challenging (at least for me). I wonder if rebalancing one won't make another one unbalanced... Would be pretty cool if different balance values could be used in different scenarios...

On the topic of interface optimizations, could we have an option to disable the animations when accessing charts? This just slows the game down.

If we're getting an overview screen again, I'd like a way to tell, at a glance, whether a region's renewable energy production can be expanded. Perhaps a figure each for current production, current potential and total potential.

I'd also like a pony.
