I can't seem to find a good answer for this. I wanted to know if the retail version of Dragon Age 2 can be registered on Steam and then downloaded? Thanks.

I believe you can. However, to be sure, contact Steam Support, just to be 100% sure.

I wouldn't bet on it to be honest.

The most you can do is Add Non Steam Game in the client and be able to use the Game Overlay User Interface while playing.

Unless otherwise specified by EA or Bioware, it will not happen.

It's actually easy to check. Head to the store page and look for achievements. If there are achievements, that means its a steamworks game and requires steam to play; ie. you can register it to your account.

I have yet to see a steamworks game with no achievements.

it doesn't work the other way though. Borderlands has achievements but cannot be registered on steam.

- Lost Planet: Extreme Condition
- Dawn of War II + Chaos Rising
- F.E.A.R. 2
- Bionic Commando
- Shattered Horizon

To name a few ;)

GFWL and Steamworks are completely different. Those are not Steamworks games.

Yes they are.

Lost Planet used Steam before the GFWL version came out with cross-platform. FEAR 2 used Steam DRM as did DoWII and the expansion. DoWII used GFWL for matchmaking and achievements. FEAR 2 had nothing to do with GFWL. Bionic Commando and Shattered Horizon both use Steam for the DRM and not anything else.

Indeed this. There are still two versions available of the first Lost Planet. The Steam works version and the upgraded GFWL version. And Bionic Commando actually also uses the Cloud feature.

Why should it be? It's not a Steamwork game.

Yeah that would be way too easy and convenient for the customers. I wouldn't want the businesses spending what amounts to pocket change to help us lowly customers out.

F.E.A.R 2 has its own achievement inside game menu just like mass effect.

It isn't up to us. If it is something that publisher is interested in doing, they will need to provide us with all the relevant information to allow cd key activations for their game(s).

It's not quite what the OP is asking for, but if you've absolutely got to have digital download availability for your retail EA game, you might try adding it to EADM (http://eastore.ea.com/eadm). It's worked for me in the past with my retail copy of BFBC2, and the key provided with my steam bought copy of Mass Effect2.

You can not add a retail DA2 to Steam.

"Thank" EA for this. Steam/Valve don't decide this.
