Just speculating that maybe they are what with Dota 2 and all.

Maybe sometime in the future, but DOTA2 might not have any direct influence to it. Valve are FPS developers and the only reason DOTA2 is being made is because they hired Icefrog, the main dev behind one of the main, older DOTA games.

So if they get some amazing RTS devs then sure.

Valve are mostly specialized in FPS, if they do some RTS, maybe they would not have the skills and good devs to do it.

I call BS on a developer being limited by their past projects. Retro only did the Prime games for the better part of a decade and then busted out a DK 2.5D platformer that does Rare's SNES series justice and then some.

Having said that, I've never seen any evidence to say Valve wants to do an RTS. Still, the jump from DOTA back into an RTS isn't too far...

They're also really getting some decent 3rd person deals out of their Source engine so it's not out of the realm of possibility. First Alien Swarm, then Dota 2, maybe some StarCraft killer next?

I don't think they'd work on a "starcraft killer" when Natural Selection 2 is still be worked on.

I want Valve to remake Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge

I hope not. I enjoy the simple humor and love they put into their FPS games. I wouldn't want more genres coming from them as it might hinder the quality of their other games.

I don't think they'd work on a "starcraft killer" when Natural Selection 2 is still be worked on.

Natural Selection 2 is developed by a indie Dev. company called Unknown Worlds Entertainment.
While they are doing their releases and have done the Alpha and now Beta and will release on Steam that is about as far as it goes with regards to affiliation to Valve.
They even went out and built their own game engine, where originally NS2 was going to be on the Source engine.

So if they are working on a Start Craft 2 killer, NS2 will not have any impact on development.

I could have sworn DOTA2 was an RTS.

I've heard a bit of debate over what kind of label that Dota 2 should get as far as genre goes. I wouldn't say RTS, more Action/RPG with strategy elements.

More like MOBA or simply Dota Genre. It doesn't have a genre. Some will cvall it Action RTS.. for the most part its just Dota. lol

I could have sworn DOTA2 was an RTS.

It's classified under the Dota genre, a sub-genre of RTS.
Other notable examples of stand-alone Dota games: Heroes of Newerth, Demigod

Dota is Dota but it plays like an RTS.
