I was thinking why not have Smoke Alarms.Ex: Someone throws a Molotov or shoots a gas can why not have one go off and alert the Horde. To no its in a room they could Say Smoke Alarm no one start a fire! And it could make a beeping sound so you no its in the area. All feedback weather its good or bad is appreciated.
Zombies ate all the batteries.
Edit: Would break balance and molotovs and canisters would be in some situations stupid to use.

Don't guns cause some smoke when firing as well? :|

Yeaaah.
Have you ever seen/heard of a smoke alarm that beeps? if it beeps then how would you distinguish between a set off and an inactive smoke alarm?
And also, if it beeps, wouldn't it just attract a horde anyway?
And thirdly, I'm pretty sure that Cold Stream is DONE. So no new content in the map.

Uhh, all Smoke alarms here beep. The inactive beep happens when batteries are low on ours too (UK here but I know the low battery isn't true for all brands).
I like the idea but would be hard for the player to figure out, I imagine.

All good points thankyou. But instead maybe of beeping when its the area maybe an Aura like on Items and props glows around it.

Yeah, when the BATTERY is low. but not all the time.
Besides, Most smoke alarms have been scavenged for pipebombs or the batteries have long died or been destroyed...
So. Yeah. ;)

This is a great idea, its been discussed before in the mapping subforum. The problem is there is no way to detect fire. But Valve could add an entity to the engine to detect fire with the dlc if they wanted making this idea possible.

i actualy think its quite a nice little idea similar to my motion sensitive lights, i mean it would have to be rare and only come about once or so in the campaign and maybe randomly assigned to certain buildings but i do like the idea, its also similar to car alarms, with the survivors having to take care around certain objects as to not attract a horde ... good thinking mate
