Hello,
I've got DA2 pre-loaded (though not yet unlocked, still waiting) and I've read that there's a high texture pack for DX11.

How do we download the high texture pack for Steam version?

download it from bioware and install it when steam unlocks the game

Did you try it yourself and it worked?

Of course it works.

Of course it works.

There's another thread on these very forums right now claiming it doesn't. He said that he's unable to install the texture pack because it doesn't recognize the mail game, Steam version.

So I ask again, did someone did that by HIMSELF and succeeded?

Neither the hi-res texture pack nor the Exiled Prince nor the Black Emporium DLC will recognize the DA2 installation if you're using Steam (yes, after decryption and installation).

EDIT: Completely restarting Steam fixes it.

That is wrong. I bought the Steam version and the hi-res texture pack works fine. All you have to do is run the Steam version of the game once, then install the texture pack. It looks very nice.

I don't know how you got it to work, i have done the same twice, still does not recognize the game been installed.

I don't know how you got it to work, i have done the same twice, still does not recognize the game been installed.

Here's what I did:

1: Start Dragon Age 2 (it will unlock the installation)
2: Run Dragon Age 2 again (this will install DX9/10/11, essentials)
3: Quit Dragon Age 2 before doing anything
4: Install High Resolution Texture Pack
5: Run DA2 again, enter config tool, enable the texture pack in the video options.

The problem is your step 4. We're having difficulty with the install of the textures. It won't recognize the DA2 install.

I was having the same problems, what I did to correct it was open the configuration program, save settings and exit. Texture pack installed no issues after this.

Of course, your mileage may vary...

Ok, I solved the DA2 not installed problem for my setup.

click 'play da2' in your steam library
click 'configure'
double-click texture pack installer-get error "one or more da2 files open. please close and retry"
Close settings configure app
double-click texture pack installer-get error "one or more da2 files open. please close and retry"
close DA2 'splash screen'
double-click texture pack installer-install texture pack!

this is basically exactly what I did and it finally installed. Hope it works for you

I always get a message saying that I need to Install Dragon age 2 first. Of course I've already installed and played the first few scenes of Dragon Age 2...

My guess is that it has something to do with the fact that my Steam and games are not on my C: drive but on another drive dedicated to games.

Is there a way to tell the installer where to find the actual install directory ?

Thanks in advance.

My steam install is on another drive aswell, and starting and closing the game worked perfectly fine for me.

High resolution textures look amazing..

No such luck for me.
Steam is on F:
Save games seem to automatically install in C:Users...

I guess the Hi texture pack do not know where to look.

Any way to point it manually ?

Is there somewhere where we can see screenshots for comparison? I'll be happy if my pc can run Dragon Age II when it finally releases for me on better then average settings, so I doubt I'll use the pack right from the start. I am however wondering how big the difference is.

Is there any point in installing this thing if your card can't use DX11?

Does it improve anything if you are running DX10?

Thanks jcarneytx and hlhbk.

Yep, I'm running into the same issue.

I installed the game, I ran the config utility, and I saved it. When I try to run the texture pack, it tells me I need to have the game installed.

When you run the game and have the splash screen come up, clicking on the utility makes the splash screen go away, by the way...

When I have the config tool up and try to run the texture pack, it tells me I have components of Dragon Age 2 running. I have saved the config and tried running the texture pack, and it still tells me I must have the Dragon Age 2 game installed to install the pack.

I even went as far as loading up the game, entering in my Bioware user name and password, then exiting the game, and it still will not install the texture pack.

I have Steam installed to my D:, but I saw from previous posts that people have their Steam installed elsewhere and didn't have the issue.

I'm not sure what the problem is, but there definitely is a problem. I won't be able to try any troubleshooting steps until around 10pm tonight, but if no solution has come by then, I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling the game to see if that corrects it.

I uninstalled the game, re-downloaded it, ran the config utility, and the texture pack exe still does not recognize that Dragon Age II is installed.

Before I uninstalled, I even loaded up the game, chose a character, and got to a combat scene. Then I exited the game and tried to run the texture pack exe . Still would not install.

I'm at a loss what to do next. There is an issue with the texture pack not recognizing the Steam installation of Dragon Age 2.

jcarneytx's directions worked for me, and I even have DA2 installed on a different hard drive than C. Follow those instructions and it will work.

Hey everyone, if your having issues loading up the texture pack, download 7-Zip utility, extract the contents of the DA2_HiResTexturePack. This will drop a folder called $[34]. Dig all the way down in the folder structure $[34]\packages\core\textures\high and you will see 2 files, copy them and paste them in: steamapps\common\dragon age ii\packages\core\textures\high. Thats it

Yeah, it improves the textures and has nothing to do with DX11.

Except it doesn't. I've followed those instructions 5 times.

I'm happy that it worked for you, but it has not worked for me.

Hey everyone, if your having issues loading up the texture pack, download z-Zip utility, extract the contents of the DA2_HiResTexturePack. This will drop a folder called $[34]. Dig all the way down in the folder structure $[34]\packages\core\textures\high and you will see 2 files, copy them and paste them in: steamapps\common\dragon age ii\packages\core\textures\high. Thats it

Thank you barbed for an alternative solution.

I will do this tonight.

Something else I noticed that is probably causing this to not install:

When the splash screen for Dragon Age 2 comes up, where you can select to play the game or run the config utility, the Uninstall option is greyed out. I can't select it.

I think that's where the issue lies with this texture pack not installing.

Yeah, it improves the textures and has nothing to do with DX11.

According to Bioware, it does.

Yes, I too would like to know if there's any point in installing the pack if you have a DX10 card.
