Hi all, i've logged in my acc and i saw changed avatar and nick, then i changed it back and changed my acc password, but when i joining any css server i get pop-up "You are banned by VAC" smthng like that, i think i've been keylogged. Is there any chance to get unbanned? :S

No, unbans only happen when VAC makes an error. You or someone have cheated on your account.

Claiming someone else did it won't change anything.

Next time please secure your computer and account.

If you think you were keylogged, you may still be infected with a keylogger. I'd get Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials and run a scan with those, then also run a scan with Spybot Search & Destroy.

However if its a cheat no scanner will work. Format is the best option.

Check MS config for anything suspicious in the service and startup tabs. Also, it wouldn't be a bad idea to stop going to porn sites... Get a good firewall with antivirus protection next time.

The guy above is right on with Spy Bot, it usually finds stuff that other virus scanners don't. At least in my experience.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to familiarize yourself with your computer processes either. That way you can check that location on a occasion for suspicious running processes.

^Bad suggestion.
It's like suggesting he stop eating.

Download Microsoft Security Essentials and enjoy all the porn you want.

Spybot Search & Destroy, doesn't scan for viruses, it scans for malware, two completely different things.

You are a little over confident my friend. At least get the whole story from this guy, Steam is a reputable business and doesnt need witty, or rude remarks. This guy paid good money for a product, you either treat him decently or get out of the support business friend.

Has anyone noticed that when people say "friend" like that, they really mean "a-hole"?
*SNIP*
(besides, Zefar is not a support guy. He's a moderator. It's very different, including the fact that support people work for Valve and moderators don't. Moderators are not in any "business".)

Well, I had a Steam admin on Steam before and he could actually ban people. :-P

Yea, me to. Atleast he said so. And I belive the people in my Steam friendslist.

I always had the impression that if you were a faithful and loyal user of Steam and on good terms with Valves systems and playing on an IP range that is your for a while, and then suddenly some foreign IP logs on, cheats and gets you banned, that they see through the fingers and lift the ban or something.
Maybe I'm wrong.

Other then that, I don't know how many players that has been banned for stuff their "friends/brothers/sisters/cousins/dogs/cats" did.

I would like to see unban, if you clearly didn't.
If someone steal your account, you can have it back.
But if someone cheat too, you don't get your VAC-Status back.

But isn't it that VAC bans last for a couple of years?
Thought they were like 1,2,3 and 4 years.

As well, this is offtopic. :-P

No, they won't lift the ban even if it came from another IP, just because then anyone could cheat from a different computer in a different place (friend's house, etc), or change their IP and claim to be hijacked after being caught.

Doesn't matter if someone did it to him. It's his account, his responsibly for security. The fact that Steam even bothers to help people recover their accounts when hijacked because of poor security by the user is a simple courtesy not a requirement. You the user are totally responsible for your accounts security. Take it seriously.

unfortunatly, ip's mean nothing. most ip's are dynamic and requently change. Mine changes between once a week to a few times a day. and it will often be listed as another country depending on the routing. i'm in ireland and my ip often indicates i'm in uk, holland, france etc.

and there are limits to what you can do to secure your account. I had mine hacked and managed to get it back with no bans on it. but it was because my isp was hacked and a lot of people had their steam accounts stolen because they were able to reroute my emails to change steam account details.

All you can do is as posted, use a random password of numbers, letters etc and check your pc regulary for virus and malware, and never give out any details no mater who asks.

One tip is to use a space before or after your passwords, makes it a bit harder for them

passwords should be alphanumeric and have at least 8 characters. Also it shouldn't be something that's associated with you or something simple like password1.

agreed, the main thing is it shouldnt be a word or name.

if you just use an 8 digit alphanumeric password with random upper and lower case letters then there are over 200 trillion possible combinations.

I just use my username backwards.

Let's see them guess THAT!
