What is the exact error report you are getting?

A. This Steam account is disabled.
B. Your connection to this secure server has been rejected. Because of past cheating violations, you have been banned from playing on all secure servers
C. "STEAMID IS BANNED" (or other similar messages)

There are not many ways to get a VAC ban

1. You cheat
2. You modify core game files
3. Someone else does either of on your account

Kinda only number 2... since Cheating involves modifying core game files.

Core files as in .dll and .exe files the game uses.

For CoD series even smallest edits to non-core files may cause VAC bans in some cases.

I mean the core game files.
Mainly BlackOpsMP.exe, binkw32.dll, and steam_api.dll.
Pretty sure those are the only .exe and .dll files in the Blops directory.

Don't add any modified DirectX files either, like for ENBSeries.
That will cause a VACBan.

As long as you don't modify those files you should be fine.

(I purposely left out BlackOps.exe, since the SP executable doesn't use VAC)

Which in turn writes to the memory of BlackOpsMP.exe.

Which in turn writes to the memory of BlackOpsMP.exe.Well, yes. And where does that lead?

Well, yes. And where does that lead?

VAC monitors memory activity.
Also note that installing (but not using) cheat tools will also trigger VAC if found during game start.

It's amazing how many foreign people complain about VAC bans.

Its mainly because foreign (to who? We all are foreign to each others) don't know how to speak English very well and cannot find Steam Support or the support articles about VAC.

Technically, they have to be started, yes, but some may have tray icon functions etc.

not that i'd use cheats, but still a warning to those trying.

I'd consider having cheats running is using them. I thought you implied that you can get banned for cheats that aren't running, which isn't true.

It really depends on what you mean by 'not running', some programs may be resident in memory even if they're not 'active'.

Considering cheats are/hacks are potentially untrustworthy anyway, they may (and I would expect very likely will) contain malware or such that can execute without the operators' knowledge.

Right, so it's possible that just by installing such 'malware' can execute and be running, active, resident in memory - and therefore trigger a VAC ban.

VAC wont ban for non-active code, aside from any modification to the Steam core files or game files.
