I bought this game the first day it came out on Steam. Everything I had checked indicated that it should run just fine, and it did so rather smoothly the first few times I played it. However, as of late, it has been running extremely slowly, becoming almost unplayable - the buttons don't respond unless the cursor is over them for a few seconds, and everything else is just laggy overall.

I tried defragmenting it and validating the files, but neither worked. Any suggestions for what could be causing the problem, and how to fix it?

Processor: Intel Core i5 (2.40 GHz)
Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 550v

OS: Windows 7

When was the last time you rebooted? NWN2 has a timing issue if you have not rebooted in a really long time (eg months).

I've rebooted it many times since I got the game. I forgot to mention it, but it's a laptop.

WIth NWN2, anytime I have played on the DM client and switch to player, or the opposite, I need to reboot. That always fixes the problem (as in, 2FPS with a nvidia 260 card lol).

Hey, im rocking dual gtx 470's SLI with the graphics maxed. I expected my fps to tear through this game naturally as its rather old now. And, my fps the first time I palyed was great, over 100 fps.

But now its averaging around 45 or so. What gives? Its hard to believe its got 45 fps when my battle field bad company 2 fps is usually over 60 with everything maxed. The weird part is my gpu usage isnt that strong for both cards, usually around 60 percent. So obviously somethigns up, ive tried lots of things.

Is that what I should expect with everything maxed? somehow I doubt it. Ill try rebooting but I don't see that being the issue.

Let me know if you learn anything.

What driver version are you using?

Also, is this SP or MP?

Try reducing light sources and shadows... those are generally the big culprits.

Despite being an older game, NWN2 is still very graphically demanding on systems... certainly much more so than others released around the same time (or even since).
