Sorry if this has been addressed somewhere before -- I haven't seen it and I tried looking through the support section to no avail.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. I just got this computer back in late October, early November, so it's fairly new. I tried playing CS 1.6 yesterday in a server that it said I should've been getting ~30 ping (I tried it with another, too). When I got in there, my ping would fluctuate, spiking up to ~180 and then it would go back down to 50, then to 150 -- it's all over the place. My bf, who was sitting next to me, joined the server and he was getting ~30. We're not really sure why I'm lagging so badly.

We're not on a wireless connection. However, he's running Win7 32-bit. I'm not sure if the fact that I'm on a 64-bit is the problem. I saw a thread where someone else was running on a 64-bit system mention something about WLAN autoconfig in Win Vista/7 that causes people to lag every minute or so, but like I said, I'm not on a wireless connection, so I'm out of ideas.

I went to msconfig and disabled everything that was starting up and, under the Services tab, disabled any non-Microsoft service. I disabled it from Startup, but upon restart, it's still in my system tray and I don't see anywhere to turn it off. I think the problem is in the Services tab. When I uncheck it, it rechecks when I hit Apply. I'm not sure if this could be my problem, but since everything except that is disabled and I'm still lagging, I thought it would be worth mentioning (but I know it might just be a coincidence).

Any help would be appreciated. Let me know if you need any additional info.

Thanks in advance.

This will not have with the fact that you are running w7 64bit, however have you tried changing some configs like:

rate 25000
cl_rate 25000
cl_updaterate "101"
cl_cmdrate "101"
ex_interp "0.01"

This config commands might help you with your ping problem
