The screen shots make this game look great, but before I commit is this game like another series (Wic,Coh,order of war, etc. ) ?

Best idea is to get a demo & see how it goes.
I think the series is good & has a lot of replay value as everything is so detailed that the smallest change can change the outcomes of the battles. You really need to use the pause button to micromanage at times as there is a lot to mess with. ;)

Also have a look at battlefront.com - their forum has a lot of info about ToW.
I think Tow generally bridges a gap between BFC's Combat Mission type games & the unrealistic RTS wargames.
ToW tries to be a sim but is great to look at & has some really memorable moments that make it fun.
There is an RPG element that allows you to micro manage the experience of your troops in the campaigns (or use auto-assign) & this makes the way they behave different.
I spent a while doing one campaign & got selected elite units doing really well. Next campaign new units with no experience got slaughtered using the same tactics. Only with those kind of experiences do you see how detailed the game is.
There are 00s of hours of gameplay in the series that's for sure.

What is this series like? It's like watching an epic battle between two armies of snails.

The graphics are excellent and it is highly realistic but on most people's computers it runs like molasses.

Yeah its a good series..Tow2 got some support after release but kursk hasn't been supported as well apart from the caen dlc...when running these games you need memory a lot of memory...theres so much going on under the hood the computer starts chugging...most people these days have 4gb min anyway...i don't know what Koreas like hav'nt seen too much but i assume its the same...:)

Its a lot of fun, i'm pretty bad at it just yet. I was looking for a game like CoH without the base building and i basically found it. If you plan on purchasing any game from them ( try the demos, they have one for every game put out/ and try men of war too)

they have packages with all theatre of war games + DLC for $45.

Or they have theatre of war 1, africa + dlc and kursk no caen dlc, but has men of war and men of war red tide for $40 (caen is 10 bucks)

It might just be me because i am used to much better, but 41 minutes into the game i am done. The controls are just impossible, the soldiers dont listen to a thing you say, and the weapon range is so long(although it is realistic) that taking an enemy position with anything short of absolutely overwhelming numbers is simply a joke. Not just that but the game speed is so ridiculously slow, 15 minutes after you start the first battle you might see combat, 5 minutes later you will have lost lots of men to enemy fire that is from halfway across the map and when you tell your tanks to attack that infantry position they either entirely ignore you or fire in seemingly random directions. Save yourself some wasted time and get something else. This ui and ai are absolutely horrible. I will say however that the graphics are nice. But thats all i'll say good about it.

*edit* The men of war and men of war red tide games were amazing. Far more enjoyable especially in campaign mode. Not a big fan of the assault squad that just came out, but thats just mostly because i was expecting a new campaign. I was sadly dissapointed in the "campaign" and single player versions of assault squad.

can someone explain how the gameplay is a bit?

Do i need to build barracks, motorpools, etc like CoH or Starcraft? Do you spawn units directly on the field, or do you a set amount into Battle like the total war games?

No, you don't build anything. In Korea you have several battlegroups that you move on the strategic map and when they encounter enemy, battle commences. Tactical battles are made to be as realistic as possible including stuff like simulation-level damage modeling.
