There could be a couple of reasons for this. The most common one is that unfortunately you've dived straight into the FreeFlight or Tutorial modes.
You CANT fire your guns in Free Flight.
You CANT fire your guns until about half way through the tutorial.
If you can't fire your guns when you actually playing then there is something wrong.
