According to the publishers, Myst Masterpiece Edition should work fine under Windows Vista.

However, having just bought the game earlier today I cannot get it to work at all. My setup is as below:

AMD Athlon Phenom II X4 940 CPU running at 3.00 GHz
8GB DDR2 RAM
ASUS EAH4870X2 (ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2) graphics card
Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, Service Pack 2

Basically, the game crashes as soon as I hit the "PLAY" button in Steam. I get a Windows error window telling me that "Myst.exe has stopped working", etc and nothing beyond that.

I appreciate that this wasn't an expensive purchase but I was expecting a bit more than that for my money.

Can anybody (Cyan Worlds, whoever) please help me out here? Thanks in advance if you can.

Right-click the .exe shortcut (assuming you're launching it through the desktop or similar) and access the properties and enable this -

No guarantee it'll work for you exactly (I'm running Vista Home Premium SP2 x64) however.

I was able to download the original ME on Vista 64-bit, SP2 without any problems. However, after I went into Properties of game and changed to XP SP2 as suggested and tried the game, I just have a black screen. I can hear the music but no picture. I also downloaded Quick Time 4.0 as suggested.

Any ideas???

I had this exact same problem. Tried all the fixes suggested on the forums, nothing worked. Here's what finally did work for me:

1. Right click on the game's title in the Steam Library menu.
2. Select "Properties"
3. Uncheck the box that says "Enable Steam Community In-Game"

After that I was able to start the game just fine. It still freezes occasionally, but at least I can play it. No idea if this will work for anyone else, but it's worth trying since apparently this is an on-going issue.
