View Full Version : Episode 3: Now Available?

DarthBrady

In the Steam Store, if you scroll down to the episodes list it now has episode 3 listed as "Now Available!". But..

Store still shows the episode 2 icon, and there is no option to download/install episode 3 in my games library yet.

Anyone have better luck than me?

Well that's disappointing. I was really hoping that by a day later (time of this post) it would have been available after I seen it on the store page. Oh well, just have to wait until Monday then.

But to confirm for those whose didn't change, mine still reads:

5-Episode Adventure

Episode 1: It's About Time - Now Available!
Episode 2: Get Tannen! - Now Available!
Episode 3: Citizen Brown -Now Available!
Episode 4: Double Visions - April 2011
Episode 5: OUTATIME - Finale!

Sadly that game is going to be filled with quicktime events. For those of you that don't know what those are:

Velociraptor jumps out at you tap "b" to dodge out of the way.

Uhg...

As long as i can see the letter and it gives me longer then 2 seconds to press the button, the more better the game will be.

I'm with Oblivion165. QTEs! Ugh!

Back to the Future is the type of movie that lends itself to the TellTale format. Jurrasic Park is not. There is too much action in Jurrasic Park. So I will not be buying JP.

Dino Crisis is more of a Jurrasic Park game. They did have an old cabinet shooter like Time Crisis. Shadow of the Colossus could inspire a JP game.

Imagine Dino Crisis using the Crytek 2 engine, island, and pacing, which would be created by the developers of Shadow of the Colossus. That is Jurrasic Park.

The icon reflects Episode 4: Double Visions actually.

We just have to be patient while Steam systematically releases other content, it is now past 10AM Seattle time so you should see it up for installation soon depending what else is going on today.

My guess would be uploading the file from telltale. valve opens up around 9am PST so I'd imagine it will be up in the next hour once they get settled, upload it, get it ready for install and make a banner announcement for Ep.3 being out. and LOL @ Scipizoa that would be awesome if you could trade in games you were done with/realized were bad purchases. They apparently bounced around that idea at one point.

Scipizoa

I have a theory, I never seen them do this before with any other game, what they did was, add all the BTTF as if they were ready to download, so it appears in our libraries. the catch here is, they included no files, so the steam client is forced to not display a download button, and being they did it this way, they had to remove the game from their system, and are probably feeding it back onto steam servers with the game files this time around.

OK, this isnt't funny anymore. If this is the way Steam Conducts business, I'll remember that next time a game can be purchased directly instead of using Steam. They could at least throw us a bone here. I say you all send them a copy of the email I sent them last night, which has still not been responded to:

copy of email:

Hello, I am a long time steam user and would like to continue to be. However myself and several others feel we have been "given the cold shoulder" and feel somewhat dissapointed due to recent events regarding this game. PLEASE, even the slighest of explanation could go a long way in keeping customers, if you'll hear me(us) out. Here is the issue:

We bought this game from Steam, when we could have skipped steam and purchased it straight from the developers online store for the same price, over 48 hours ago, you updated the description of the store page for this game to show Episode 3 as "Now Available". There was no option to download it. Upon trying to contact you, there was no response, So some users (including myself) tried to contacted the developer, Telltale Games. They responded quickly, explaining that Episode 3 would be released Monday on their online store and Steam's Store, and PS3 followed on Tuesday. On Monday, you (Steam) updated the Steam Store page for Back to the Future: the Game yet again, to include the title art and icon for the 3rd episode, and even had it on the first "page" of the featured games section, advertising the 3rd Episode was now available to download. But there was still no download. Everyone on the forum complains of they same problem. Again, not only did you not respond with an answer once more, but you reverted the Steam Store page back to show the game as not yet released, and removed the game from our Libraries entirely! What's disturbing about this, is at the same time, the developer announced it was ready for release, and made it available on their online store for all the customers who purchased it directly from them to download.

I understand that sometimes things happen to cause minor delay, but actions like the ones mentioned above on your behalf, going unanswered as they have, is unacceptable, And it begs us (your customers) all to ask a question, Why go through steam to purchase a game as a "middle man" deal to risk delays, false announcements, and being ignored when we ask for an explanation or help of any king regarding the matter, when we can purchase it directly, removing all those possible issues for the SAME PRICE from a company that has actually been involved with communicating to their customers in both their forums and personal email responses?

Thank you for your time, and I (as well as the others reading the copy of this I post in your above mentioned forums) look forward to finding out if you care to respond this time.

Sincerely,

Dissapointed Customer

It's not the first, second nor third time this is happening to me: Always expect Steam releases to be delayed by 1 or 2 days or at least by a few hours. Actually, I don't know who is to blame as both parties (Steam and the publishers) play their part in the release process. Maybe somethings overly complex there or maybe Steam runs its own QA to ensure the games are playable when installed through Steam and is just late.

I'll check again in a few hours, hopefully it's available then. I wouldn't be too surprised if Steam launches it together with a mid-week deal at the usual 19/20 CEST (that should be 1 pm EST?).

I'm a game dev so I'm only too aware of the potential problems with game releases - in 12 years I don't think I've ever worked on a game that's been released on time :)

The big problem I have is the total lack of communication from Steam. People are patient, if they're given information. If they're not it just seems like Steam is taking the piss.

click the help link in your steam client. in the customer service page, goto games, find back to the future, and contact them. email address is:

support@telltalegames.com

That's to email Telltale - to email Steam, click Help in Steam, and go to the FAQ to contect Steam directly.

MY POINT EXACTLY. even a simple "Tomorrow - we're working on it" would have been nice.

@Brownclaw: Unfortunately, it's not like the game wouldn't have been released already (with the 28th March it already happened to be almost too late from Telltale to be still called a March release :) ). Instead, it's just not distributed through Steam yet.

Yesterday's sudden disappearance from the library seems strange as well; I didn't notice that for any other preordered game yet. I suspect there was some error in the release process that causes the hold-up and Steam (or Telltale) hoped to be able to fix that yesterday (thus the late revocation of the store page). Sure, some official information from Steam would be nice but wouldn't change anything in the outcome. And it would not be Steam if there would be any official comment on a release - I've never seen them comment anything in public.

Yes , it would have changed the outcome. It would have changed my mind about not buying anymore games from steam if I don't have to.

Well, that's kind of my point; I just meant that delays and hold-ups do happen, but Steam are in the perfect position to let people know what the hell is going on, but they seem to be choosing not to.

I'm also not saying Telltale are completely blameless either - as the developer, they must be aware of Steam's problem (not sure what % of their total revenue is based on Steam sales but I'm sure it's not a trifling amount...) - Telltale could just as well say on their website 'We've contacted Steam to find out where your games are and they said....etc'.

No the Prob is the staff are working in the USA and so we have to wait for them to start work before they can do anything about it. I would say give it another few hours and there will be at least a response as to the delay. But it is poor form that even a moderator doesnt explain this.

True, that's also one of the reasons why I would expect it to arrive along with an otherwise unrelated mid-week deal (combined to be one update to the store/distribution system).

BTW, I think noone commented that yet... This release went "Back to the Future". :D

Don't they work Mondays then? A bunch of us have been sat here since yesterday lunchtime.

I'm not having a go, I'm just saying they have had ample opportunity to fill people in.

For me it works from inside steam. I used the steam-link above and it added Episode 3 to my library again. After the download I could start it like normal :)

Not to revive old topics but i got a reply back from my angry letter to steam.

Hello Scipizoa, Thank you for contacting Steam Support. Please exit Steam and go to the folder called C:\Program Files\Steam\ (this is the default location for a Steam installation - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it). Delete all of the files in this folder except: The Steamapps folder and Steam.exe (If 'exe' is not visible, look for the black and white Steam icon) Restart your computer. Then, you will need to launch Steam.exe from within the Steam installation folder, and not from a pre-existing shortcut. With Steam running, re-test the original issue. Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games. If the issue persists, view the following article for further troubleshooting: Title: Troubleshooting Network Connectivity Link: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1456-EUDN-2493 If you have any further questions, please let us know.

hmm WHAT THE HELL IS THIS ALL ABOUT!?!?!
