Hello.
I am interested, because I don't want to lose my Steam account. :)
Today I tried to use my own programmed gamemode in Serious Sam HD game (wasn't working, I screwed something up) in moddable version of course...
Can it make my VAC off?
Maybe that's stupid, but I really want to know...

SS:HD is not VAC protected, so no problem for ya. But don't touch any common known all-purpose-cheating tool, this gets you banned in *ANY* VAC shielded game.
Also note that manipulations on CoD:MW2 and CoD:BO other than the config files will get you vacced in them, too.

VAC bans by game engine...
I.E: Cheating in CS:S will not get you banned in L4D.

Um, that was his way of saying "Don't bother modding MW2 and Black Ops, as doing so will get you VAC'd". (until the mod tools come out in the case of the latter of course)

Yep, I know.

"Them" referring to Cod:MW2 and Cod:BO respectively, regarding which you modded.

Any modifications to CoD:BO that would get you banned would also get you banned on CS:S, TF2, ect.

WRONG: Cod:BO does *NOT* use Source Engine.

Never said it did, mate.
I was referring to causing bans, not actually getting VAC banned on BO getting you banned on CS:S.
I.E: If you used a console unlocker on MW2 and you got banned, using said console unlocker on CS:S would also cause a ban.
Just an example, I know CS:S already has a console available.

No.
If you get banned on one engine, then the ban is ONLY on that engine. If the cheat in question is quite generic and can do the same thing on multiple games, then it's possible that you will banned in any games that can detect it. (IE a cheat that creates an aimbot on L4D would probably need to be re-written for Battlefield and therefore wouldnt get detected on that game).
If however, you download a cheat that attempts to DISABLE VAC and you are detected using it. You will get banned from ALL your games. VAC disablers cause massive problems for Valve and there is a zero tolerance policy on these.
If you are modding a game that isn't VAC protected - you won't get banned from that game. If you really want to make sure that you won't get banned from any of your other games, make sure that your amendments aren't "running" when you load a different game.

i think you just contradicted yourself.
css and l4d both use the source engine.
or am i missing something? does vac ban across different branches of the same engine? cause thats the only difference between CS:S and L4d.

Yes, they both use the source engine... but the engine is modified enough to be considered different.

Serious Sam is not VAC-secured game.
Cheating in Counter-Strike: Source will affect Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2 and other Source Engine games, but won't affect Call of Duty series, for example.
But sometimes some people were banned using «superban» that bans your from ALL Steam games (including singleplayer). In most cases people superbanned themselves, because they used VAC Disablers (we don't know how it works, so, probably, they doing something with Steam DLLs...)

So do MW2 and Black Ops and they are still counted as different engines.

Exactly. L4D uses a newer version and Valve thought it would be different enough to warrant it's own category.

Soo seems that I don't need to worry... Besides, I deleted my own content, so it won't detect anything. ^^
Thank you guys!

Thanks for the clarification.
