View Full Version : Why is this in my games list?

MonkeySeeker

I don't own and don't want to own it.

Yet somehow it is not only in my games list but is in my installed games list  (showing Purchase instead of Play) - it isn't installed anywhere on my PC and mine is the only Steam account.

Look at the news:

http://store.steampowered.com/news/5194/

So, it's a sort of free weekend beta..

EDIT: I don't know why it's in the games list, but you can participate in beta through the store page.

Right ok, I know games do occasionally appear in my games list but I haven't installed it, so why is it showing in my installed games list?

My only option is to "purchase" it from the library... not play it.
I don't want this crap in my library.

Ninjaedited my post above. Strange it shows up as installed.

another EDIT: Must be a steam bug that will be fixed as soon as they notice it.. or something

lol :D yeah I spotted it.

Weird though. I can't even hide it which is kind of annoying. Stop trying to force this ♥♥♥♥ on us EA/Maxis and/or Valve.

(Before the Steam/Valve defenders pop up I don't care who's fault it is)

EDIT: lmao, will you stop doing that :D

Couldn't care less if they were paying me to take it, I DO NOT WANT.

Also it's in my installed list when it isn't and never will be installed and it says Purchase!

1. It is not a free Game it is a BETA

2. The game shows as installed yet asks you PURCHASE it instead of PLAYING it from the library menu

3. Stop getting your post count up and being a lover (opposite to being a haterter obviously! Because being a lover is the new hater!)

No it isn't in the folder location at all, only in the Library with the big PURCHASE icon.

Not good for parents who have to explain too their children they cannot buy the game, it is a huge advanatage for the sales im sure but a huge dissapointment for parents imho.

People complain about the stupidest things.

maybe in the future, steam will advertise more games just because they are 50% off or 75% off even though it's not free weekend or beta.

maybe they will even install the games for you automatically or download trailers for you because it's free!

they need to keep a separate space for business and personal.
once they start putting things they want inside the libraries, then anything is possible starting from the littlest things.

point is: why are they putting things inside MY library? so that I can see it and maybe purchase it? that's why the "store" page is for. they are starting to blur the line between store and library.

It will disappear from your list after the beta is over. No point in getting all excited about it.

Go play a game.

Shouldn't be there in the first place. If it could be hidden it wouldn't be an issue but it's in the INSTALLED list also even though it isn't anywhere on the PC.

If you don't care about it then move on but some do which is why we are here.

In the meantime we have to put up with a PURCHASE icon, where it would normally say Play and then if you are a parent you have to explain to minors why when they try to click on what would normally be a Play button and they are taken to the main steam store page.

That is not getting "excited", it is being objective you should try it sometime.

Wonder how much steam sold out on that one to put it in the library of everyone. How far will EA go to shove dung down our throats.

I do happen to own DarkSpore and I can't do anything with it either. There's no option to install. It has "Play Game" as if it were already there but clicking that will just give me the "game is not available" error.

Yup. That's the exact issue I have as well. I can't install the beta even by clicking the link in the store page. Hopefully this gets fixed.

MonkeySeeker

Hmmm, if it's a bug and they fix it and it at least disappears from my installed list then that's not too bad.

If it's their way of shovelling it down people's throats though it's unacceptable.

According to the properties its taking up 34MB of my disk. While thats a pittance these days I don't like the idea of steam installing games (I'd say its an installer by the size) on my system without my knowledge. And delete local content does nothing to remove it from my library.

Do not want.

amcdermo
03-28-2011, 05:44 PM
I'm downloading it but it appears as a separate game. Darkspore with a blank picture saying preload complete and the beta with a proper picture that then becomes borked when in grid view. Delete local content deletes nothing.

I find their lack of ability in getting the icon working disturbing.

Witherfist
03-28-2011, 05:45 PM
I never even knew what this game was. I was just looking through my games library and there it was "Pre-Load Complete". Every other Beta Weekend game gives you the option of installing it or not even if it shows up in your library.

I don't want this game. I would never want this game. Don't install useless crap on my computer. Even if it's free.

At least let me delete it. Delete Local Content doesn't do anything.

how much did EA pay Steam to make this game show up in the library?

i bet other publishers will pay money to have it preloaded automatically and even download the trailer automatically in the future.

You people saying for us to get over it are missing the point in all of this. Today we have a free beta showing up in our personal game library, tomorrow we're gonna have popups and are gonna need software like popup blockers just to prevent ads we could care less about. But hey, I guess that's cool with most of you since this is not a big deal.

That reaction's a bit immature.

If you did not install it yet it's in your list, an adult would assume that it's a bug and pay little attention to it, waiting patiently for it to be fixed. Not cry about it and brand it as unacceptable. Do you stare at your library list all day or something?

So ads being forced down a consumers throat is immature now, cool. You probably still live at home and have all your games funded by the parental units. And not everyone would be able to decide right off the bat that this was a bug. Since other members were saying that they in fact had games show up in their libraries when it was a free weekend. So I guess all those people are childish morons as well and you're the only one above all of us. Now a real adult wouldn't assume someone is crying about a problem by calling something unacceptable. I was just stating an opinion. We ARE allowed to post our opinions on here right M4nkoRid3r? I just want to get an OK from you to make sure freedom of speech is still in effect.

Ahaha, another reaction and a baseless assumption on my living situation, you're hilarious and mistaken.

Besides the free darkspore beta steam news, I see no ads being forced anywhere. Unless you keep looking at your games list and clicking on Darkspore? Come on, there are activities you can do with steam minimised, even some away from you pc! Fresh air is good, I know I love it.

You're entitled to your opinion, just expect someone with a different one to yours and not be so defensive when they make theirs. And I'm not assuming someone is crying, I see several people overreacting to such a trifle matter.

I must correct you though, there is no such thing as freedom of speech.

You are hypocritical, ignorant and need to go back to school and learn what your rights are and stop contradicting yourself.
